ASB FAQ
Q: Will I have to spend time on ASB outside of school?
A: ASB is a class as well as an extracurricular activity, therefore, time will be spent outside of school at ASB events.
Q: Do I help with every ASB event?
A: Each position in ASB is responsible for planning and executing their own events, however, also required to participate and help other ASB members.
Q: What is a “Co” and how is it determined?
A: Almost every appointed position in ASB is occupied by more than one person. The person or people you are working with during the year are regarded as your “co”. Each position is determined based on who would work well together.
Q: What is an average day in ASB like?
A: All class periods in ASB will begin with a meeting. During the meeting each position updates the class on their projects, and asks for input when necessary. After everyone has spoken in the meeting purchase orders are voted on. The remainder of the class period is devoted to working on projects and upcoming events.
Q: Are you graded in ASB?
A: Yes, you are graded in ASB. It is an academic class as well as an extracurricular activity. Your grade is based on your participation in ASB events as well as the success to which your position’s goals are achieved and meeting the deadlines appropriated to your job and committees in a timely manner. Further details about grading policy will be given once the class is selected.
Q: What are Classroom Connections and does everyone in ASB participate?
A: Classroom Connections is one of ASB’s best ways to reach out to each classroom and student. Every member in ASB, besides ASB cabinet, is assigned two to three classes to which they’re responsible for disseminating all information regarding upcoming ASB events.
Election FAQ
Q: How is my position chosen?
A: Elected positions are chosen based on who wins the election for each office. Appointed positions are determined based on the application packet and interview process. An ASB committee will assign each appointed position to a new member of ASB, where they see fit based on the application process.
Q: What happens if I lose in the election?
A: If the election outcome does not go your way you’re not disqualified from the application process. There will be secondary interviews scheduled for those who lose in the election cycle to apply for an appointed position in ASB.
Q: What is the difference between elected and appointed positions?
A: Elected positions are determined based on an election for each class cabinet as well as the ASB cabinet. Within each cabinet there are three positions, the Secretary and Treasurer, Vice President and President. Appointed positions on the other hand, do not require an election. The appointed positions in ASB are the Commissioners of different events and are responsible for carrying out a prescribed list of events and activities.
Q: When is the ASB application due?
A: Monday, April 13 2020
Q: How can I schedule an interview?
A: A google form will be posted on the website under the “Applications” section. You will be able to schedule an interview in whatever time slot works best for you. Interviews will most likely be administered via Google Hangouts with your student EMail address.
Q: When is the campaigning period?
A: The campaigning period will be April 27th to May 1st.
Q: How will campaigning work while the campus is shut down?
A: All campaigning will have to be over social media since we are currently out of school. Refer to the “Campaign Rules” document posted in the “Applications” section to see the guidelines for the election.
Q: What days will everyone be voting?
A: The voting period will be May 4th- 6th.
Q: What days are the interviews scheduled for?
A: As of right now interviews are scheduled for April 20th to 24th.
Q: If elected, do I still need to be interviewed?
A: Yes, all ASB candidates must be interviewed.
