This website has been created to support students in Redondo Beach Unified School District only.
Users might see the errors “Mapper Credentials Invalid” or “Username and password must be provided” OR sometimes they can login as far as the dashboard but can’t open any of the school apps.
The SSO Portal is the universal login for all school apps and programs. This problem can be caused by several issues:
“Mapper Credentials Invalid” may result from a typo during login - You must enter the correct and full RBUSD email and password.
“Mapper Credentials Invalid” may also result from using the wrong address in the browser address bar - To access the SSO Portal, you should ONLY type “portal.rbusd.org” in the address bar and NOTHING ELSE (do not accept any autofilled offerings!). The portal site should open the default login screen.
If these first two steps don’t have any effect, follow the steps for How to reset your Chrome settings, then close the browser and open a new one.
“Username and password must be provided” appears as a result of having certain third party apps/extensions, such as games and web browsers. Follow the steps for How to Remove Apps and Extensions.
“Server Error in ‘/’ Application” may appear as a result of using the wrong address to access the portal, e.g. from a bad bookmark. To access the SSO Portal, you should ONLY type “portal.rbusd.org” in the address bar and NOTHING ELSE (do not accept any autofilled offerings!)
If none of these actions resolve the issue, contact your school librarian or RBUSD IT Dept.
PowerSchool should start automatically when opened from the RBUSD SSO Portal dashboard. However, if the student is presented with a screen for Chrome settings or the Microsoft Login prompt instead, contact your school librarian or RBUSD IT Dept.

RBUSD does NOT provide technical support for third party apps and extensions. If you are having a problem with an app or extension that you have been told you NEED for schoolwork, try deleting and reinstalling the app/extension. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, please let your teacher know.
Try one or more of the following steps:
Press CTRL+SHIFT+0 to reset the screen to its default resolution.
Hold down the Ctrl key and tap the "+" (plus) key to increase the zoom level. Or, hold down the Ctrl key and tap the "-" (minus) key to decrease the zoom level.
On the home screen of the Chromebook, right-click on the clock on the toolbar. A list of functions will appear. Select “Accessibility”, then turn off Full Screen Magnifier.
Press and hold the Power key until the Chromebook turns off (may take several seconds).
Wait ten seconds, then restart the Chromebook and login.
If this still doesn’t work, follow the instructions for How To Perform a Hard Reset and log in.

Screen might look something like this when watching a video:
Follow the steps for Updating Your Chromebook.
Login and open a Chrome browser. Type “chrome://flags” into the address bar.
In the “Search flags” box, type “hardware”.
Scroll down through the list of flags until you find one called “Hardware-accelerated video decode”.
If this flag is “Enabled”, change it to “Disabled”.
A message will appear, saying “Your changes will take effect next time you relaunch Google Chrome.” If you are ready to relaunch, click the "RESTART NOW" button next to the message.
If this doesn’t resolve the issue, contact your school librarian or RBUSD IT Dept.
Common problems include the camera and/or microphone not working properly within a meeting, or a message saying “Your high CPU usage is affecting meeting quality”. Zoom, or any video conferencing app, requires a significant amount of CPU and network resources so it is important to make sure that ChromeOS is up to date, no non-standard apps or extensions are running and all non-essential tabs are closed, and test that the camera and microphone work properly outside any other apps. If you are experiencing frequent problems with video conferencing, please try the following steps:
Follow the steps for Updating Your Chromebook. Your Chromebook should update itself automatically after being powered on - just make sure you switch it on well before your class starts, so that it has time to download any updates and you have time to restart it if necessary.
Follow the steps for How to Remove Apps and Extensions. Third party apps and extensions (and their automated updates) can severely impact performance.
Follow the instructions for How To Perform a Hard Reset, then restart Chromebook. A hard reset will reinitialize your camera and audio hardware.
Before opening any other apps, test that the camera and microphone are working by opening the Camera app. Press the Search (magnifying glass) key on the left side of the keyboard and start typing “Camera” into the search field. Click on the Camera icon that appears.
If the camera does not open or you get a message that says “Camera not available”, contact your school librarian or RBUSD IT Dept.
If the camera opens, record a short test video of yourself talking, to make sure that the camera and microphone are working properly.
If you cannot record a video successfully, contact your school librarian or RBUSD IT Dept.
If the camera and microphone are working normally, you should be able to use them with Zoom. Any problems encountered beyond this point MAY be temporary and depend on your local environment - it may not be possible to fix them by replacing or repairing the Chromebook itself.
If you see the message saying “Your high CPU usage is affecting meeting quality” when using Zoom, close as many apps/extensions/non-essential tabs as you can. This is a warning, not a fatal error, and should hopefully only indicate a temporary reduction in performance.
If you see a white popup appear, that starts with the text "NaCl Hangup", and quickly disappear before returning you to the Join Meeting screen, simply close any open Zoom-related tabs in your browser and try to connect to the meeting again.
Your video quality may be impacted by your local network speed, especially if other people in your household are also trying to use video conferencing. If other people in your class are having a problem seeing and/or hearing you (e.g. your picture keeps freezing), try turning off your video in Zoom temporarily (let your teacher know if you need to do this) and participate via audio only for a while.
Certain types of headset with a built in microphone may not work well with the Chromebook and the student’s speech may sound loud and/or garbled to other listeners in the class. If this is the case, switch the Chromebook back to using the internal microphone by clicking on the little up-arrow to the right of the Mute button (down in the lower left of the Zoom window), and make sure that the microphone is set to Internal Mic or Same As System (Default - Internal Mic). Here is a Video to walk you through this step.
If the student’s speech still sounds loud and/or garbled to other listeners in the class, check the volume level of the microphone. Click on the status area (at the bottom right of the screen) and then click on the right-arrow at the right end of the audio level bar. Make sure the microphone is set to an acceptable volume level (usually in the middle of the bar). .
If you are having trouble hearing sound, check which speaker is being used by clicking on the little up-arrow to the right of the Mute button (down in the lower left of the Zoom window). If using headphones or a headset, make sure they show up in the Speaker section and are selected. If you are having problems using these, switch back to the Chromebook’s internal speaker by selecting Speaker, or Same As System (Default - Speaker).
If your camera or microphone stops working mid-session, you may need to leave and rejoin the Zoom meeting. It may even be necessary to restart the Chromebook (see step 11.3). If this is a persistent problem, contact your school librarian or RBUSD IT Dept.
Please let your teacher know about any audio/video problems that you are experiencing.
If you have an alternative device that runs Zoom, e.g. phone, tablet, home PC, please try using that for your meeting while using the Chromebook for schoolwork.
