Have you ever played sports, feeling the hard impacts of catching 95 mile per hour baseballs or enduring the immense pressure of a penalty kick in a soccer game? The world of sports is huge and many different teams and positions are considered very difficult to play, so today we will be listing the top 5 hardest positions to play in the world of sports.
At number 5 we have a baseball pitcher. Being a baseball pitcher is without a doubt difficult, especially when you are expected to throw the ball at 90 mph in the big leagues. According to Bleacher Report, “From the loaded position, the human shoulder rotates forward at 7,000 degrees per second at its peak.” That’s the fastest motion of any human activity. Being a pitcher is very hard and there is much respect for all pitchers.
In the number 4 spot is an American football quarterback. Imagine being on the field and you have to remember multiple plays while avoiding 300-pound linebackers charging at you, I would be terrified! This position and role of the team is insanely difficult to succeed in and super stressful in the big moments.
At the number 3 spot, we have a baseball catcher. Being a baseball catcher is a really hard job to do, especially when you are expected to catch a baseball every time that’s flying in the air at anywhere from 70- 90 mph. Being a catcher means you have to squat for hours straight while wearing equipment that is around 90 degrees hot.
In the number 2 spot, we have a hockey goalie. A hockey goalie is insanely difficult to play because you have to defend a 6x4 goal while wearing a bunch of padding that makes you heavier and is not comfortable. Hockey shots are taken at around 80-90 mph, and the hockey puck is very small as it slides around the ice rink.
Finally in the big one spot arguably the hardest position to play in the world, Goalie (Soccer). One of the hardest things about being a goalie is injury risk, at any moment you could possibly risk spraining or even breaking your fingers and ribs from blocking rock hard air filled balls coming towards you at 75-90mph and diving onto the ground just to stop the opposing team from scoring. The biggest reason that goalie is the hardest position is the job. A regular soccer goal’s size is 8x24 ft, and even the biggest tallest most athletic goalies have trouble defending fast 68cm circumference balls that get rocketed into the net. At least hockey goalies have lots of padding to keep them safe, goalies have gloves and insane bravery to keep them safe, there is a reason that people say, “You have to be crazy to be a goalkeeper.”-Bleacher Report.
