St. Louis Cardinals History

The St. Louis Cardinals are an American professional baseball team established in 1882 that plays in the National League. The Cardinals have won 11 World Series titles and 23 league pennants. Second to the New York Yankees in World Series championships, St. Louis is the oldest major league team west of the Mississippi River and one of baseball’s most consistently successful franchises.

The Cardinals originally known as the Brown Stockings and the Browns and played in the American Association, winning four pennants in a row from 1885 to 1888. In 1892 the team moved to the National League, where it struggled, finishing in last or second to last place in five of their first seven seasons in the new league. In 1900 the franchise became known as the Cardinals after one year with the nickname “Perfectos.”

In 1941 Stanley Musial joined the Cardinals, he became one of the Cardinals most loved players. He played 22 seasons and led the team to the most successful time in their franchise. In the 1940’s they got first or second place in the National League, they were in four World Series during that time and lost only one of the four.

The Cardinals are a great baseball team, although this current year they didn’t do so well. The Cardinals also have an interesting background and the players are very skilled. I like the team because they are very good at baseball and interesting to watch, especially when they make very cool plays and clutches!
