“Ready, 1..2!” Have you ever thought about being on the Edgewood Colts cheer team? Well now is your time to shine! On March 25th, and 28th then the final tryouts on the 29th from 5- 7:30 pm after school.
If you make the team, you will cheer at football and basketball games. Last year, they only cheered at one away game for football at the OV Football field. The football games can get pretty intense, to keep our team's spirit up make sure to yell loud and make sure to keep a smile on your face!
To ensure that you make the team be sure to have spirit, smile, and be super sharp with your movements, the judges love to see this type of stuff! The coaches Becca and Lacie make sure you have time to prepare yourself by having three days of tryouts. If you wanna try out you MUST attend all three days. When attending make sure to have a shirt and shorts, a low ponytail, no jewelry, and tennis shoes. You must have a sports physical on file with Edgewood!
On the first day of tryouts you learn the chant, cheer, and band dance you will perform on the third day of tryouts which are the final tryouts that confirm if you are on the team, which you can access on Facebook once the decision is made. When you get there on the third day, they give you a number that you put on your shirt and wait till midnight when they post it on Facebook. The second is a day to prepare for tryouts. You go over everything you have learned and if you have questions you can either talk to coaches or ask the 7th and 8th graders who know everything and will be walking around to groups with questions and helping them understand.
The team has practices on Mondays and Fridays, during basketball season if there is a game in the week there will be no practice that week. During the summer, they have this cheer camp that's called UCA.It's where you go to a type of university like IU, and go and stay in dorms and cheer for 14 hours straight with lunch breaks in between, they also allow you to pack snacks for your dorm room. You wake up before 6:45 to go to the dining hall to eat breakfast and lunch, it also gets very packed because of how many schools there are. ”My favorite memory from cheer is winning the banana at cheer camp and being able to celebrate with my teammates!” Said Laina Chandler a current 6th grader who did cheer last season. We hope to see you at tryouts!
