Football, soccer, baseball and basketball are all really well known sports. But have you ever heard of bossaball or underwater hockey? These are just some of the unusual sports that are actually played! They may not be as well known as other sports but they are known and played by people! Here are 5 unusual sports.
Underwater HockeyĀ
If you are a hockey fan, then you might be shocked to see that people actually play this sport underwater. Underwater hockey is a sport played by 40 countries, originating in England. The first game ever played was in 1954, 70 years ago! Underwater hockey is played in a 25m x 15m pool. The pool is between 2 - 4 meters deep. Each game consists of 15 minute halves and a 3 minutes half time. Something unique about underwater hockey is that it is the only sport that makes you hold your breath the entire time you are playing.Ā

Cheese Rolling
Originating in Gloucester, England cheese rolling is a sport that happens as an annual event held at Cooperās Hill, which is near Gloucester. From the top of the hill a 7 - 9 pound round of Double Gloucester cheese is rolled down a hill. The hill is 200 yards long. The cheese is given a one second head start before the players start running down the hill.Ā The first person to make it across the finish line wins the game and wins the cheese.
Ostrich Racing
Ostrich racing is a sport that dates all the way back to the late 1800s! Ostrich racing is mostly played by people in South Africa and the United States. Ostrich racing is pretty much like horse-back riding, but instead of horses, people race each other on the backs of ostriches. Of course, the first person to complete the race wins. There are 2+ players that compete in an ostrich race.

Cycle Ball
Cycle ball was first introduced in 1893. Cycle ball originated in Germany.One cycle game has 2 halves that are 7 minutes. The players get to choose whether they are playing solo, in a duo or in a trio. The players have to use the wheels of their bikes to move the ball. The players are not allowed to touch the ground and lean on the ground or the ball. If they break these rules then they are executed from the game. The goal of the game is to get the ball into the opponent's goal.Ā
Bossaball
Bossaball is a sport that combines volleyball, soccer and gymnastics. This sport was created in Spain in 2004, making it almost 20 years old! Bossaball is also currently the newest sport in the world. Bossaball has grown in popularity throughout the years with over 20 counties playing this sport! This game has 2 teams with 4 players each. The goal of the game is to get the ball on the ground of the opponent's side.
