Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a teacher? In this article you will hear about some things that teachers like about their job and some challenges they have. You will hear about how their days usually go.
One of the things that many teachers like about teaching is that they can put a smile on people’s faces. Other teachers like being able to see that "aha" moment when a kid finally understands. And some really enjoy making kids problem solvers and teaching them to think outside the box. Sarah Finn, a 6th grade social studies teacher and EJHS said, “I love making learning fun and I like that I get to be creative and connect with kids.”
One of the challenges that teachers have is making what they are teaching relevant and trying to reach all of the kids. Brian Gallagher an 8th and 7th grade math teacher said, “Probably the biggest challenge is working with unmotivated students”. Another challenge that teachers face is that you never know what is going to happen. Anna Oresko, a 7th and 8th grade inclusion teacher “It is kind of unpredictable, you don’t know what each day will bring”.
Teachers' days all go differently. Some teach different things every day, while others teach pretty much the same thing every day. All of the teachers start out their day with homeroom or flex. After that, they teach their classes. Each of the teachers get one class period off on block days and two class periods off on Wednesdays. They all also get a lunch break, like us. After school they usually stay at school for a while planning lessons and grading assignments and occasionally go to meetings.
Overall, being a teacher has its ups and downs, but as far as I’m aware most teachers really enjoy their jobs. The things that teachers like about their jobs outweigh the challenges. Most of the teachers would agree that being a teacher is a very fun job.
