If you aren’t in EJHS’s Journalism class(s), have you ever wondered what it’s like? If it’s fun– if you should do it next year? Jasmine Cooper will be sharing her experience during Journalism– what it’s like, how much she likes it, her personal experience, etc.
Continue reading for a deep dive into Jasmine’s personal experience in Journalism, and maybe even change your mind if you decide it sounds amazing! (It is.)
“I didn’t choose to be in Journalism at first,” said Jasmine. “but, I’m actually not that sad that I’m in it. It’s fun sometimes!”
Jasmine, as stated, didn’t actually sign up to be in Journalism when she picked her classes. Though, she does still find it fun, despite it not being one of her very favorite classes or options.
Even though Jasmine says she doesn’t think she’s extremely amazing at writing, she still likes Journalism. Though, despite her liking it, she doesn’t plan on doing it in future years. “I do enjoy Journalism, but I think I’m only decent at it. I would only want to continue it if I had better articles.”
“It’s just not my thing.” Jasmine said simply.

“Being in Journalism can be a lot of work,” said Jasmine, when asked what she would tell new or planning-to-be-a future journalist. “but don’t give up. The editors are really nice– and they definitely know how to take you on the right path.”
Jasmine has a lot of other tips to give, but if you want those, go visit her! She’ll have a lot of information to give you.

Mrs. Ayer, the other EJHS Journalism teacher, is Jasmine’s Journalism teacher. Jasmine said, “Mrs. Ayer is genuinely a great teacher,” she said when asked if she understood how she taught. “she really is. My writings and knowledge about Journalism isn’t the best, and maybe I don’t understand it very well, but that’s not Mrs. Ayers problem, it’s quite literally just my intelligence about the writing process.”
“Oh, I most definitely take ideas from other articles, mostly past or archived ones.” Jasmine said when asked if she takes article ideas from others. “Of course, I always switch the writing so it fits my article and isn’t ‘copyrighted,’ so it’s mostly just inspiration.”
“It’s actually a lot easier to take inspiration from archived articles!”
“Editorials are definitely my favorite article type,” Jasmine said. “I have too many opinions to count, and I’m a big talker.”
Jasmine claims that she’s a girl of big opinions, fighting for her side even if she knows it probably isn’t true and she just loves to bicker. “Editorials have so much potential– so much stuff to write about. Writing about my own beliefs brings me joy, knowing that I’m making people angry when they’re on the opposing side.”
Jasmine said that her bickering wasn’t just to be a menace. There's one other reason she fights for her side. She thinks it’s fascinating to see and consider other people's opinions– some even changing her own belief.
“The most recent article I made was for the Halloween Issue, not too long ago.”
Jasmine said when she was asked for the most recent article she did. “I wrote about the ‘Top Five Haunted Places in Bloomington.’ You should totally check it out.”
“The Halloween Article was actually really fun. I loved seeing other people's ideas and watching their faces when they either got chosen or didn’t. Another reason you should totally join Journalism!!!”

Silly Jasmine!!!
“Choosing a hook type or making a hook is hard, like, really hard. I struggle with it all the time,” Jasmine said, while literally in the process of studying hooks. “I usually jump straight into it, but making it interesting in the process. When you make a hook, you don’t want to just tell them what’s happening, unless it’s Breaking News, of course.”
“I go into it and then make it interesting, making sure it catches readers attention.”
This in general, is what Jasmine does every week. Even though it isn’t her thing exactly, and she doesn’t think she’s good at it, (PS: She is!!) She still enjoys the experience and the opportunity to participate in a class that is considered hard in some other people's eyes.
In conclusion, thank you so much for reading my article, and have a fantastic day.
