Have you ever heard about the EJHS Student Council and what they do? Well the EJHS Student Council consists of students just like you and they are a student body that helps make decisions and help out the school itself. It is a great community to be around and you’ll love it immediately.
At the beginning of the school year Mrs. Schlemmer and Mrs. Straw sent out a google form on the daily announcements to all interested students for a chance to be a part of the 2023-2024 Student Council. Each google form was taken into consideration and a select number of students were let in from grades 6, 7 , and 8. At the first meeting it was explained to students that if your grade got below a B- at the end of each quarter you would be talked to and possibly removed. You would also be kindly let go if you got any office referrals or detentions. The Student Council wants the best of you and that is why.
Once everything was set in place the Student Council Supervisors Caroline Schlemmer and Brittany Straw talked about needed members for different groups and events. Then they broke out into groups and started organizing and planning. Groups were talked about again at the very next meeting from the start of the new year. In the second semester all groups had either already had their events or ended due to time or season, so groups were discussed that were needed and students got to work. The Student Council organized amazing things with outstanding teamwork for the school such as both the Halloween and Valentine’s day dances, Pumpkin Fest, and girls’ softball concessions. They even welcome new sixth graders at the beginning of the school year and fifth graders at the end of their year.
The Student Council goes to great lengths to make sure all students are comfortable and happy. One of the members “I like how they are all kind, helpful, and encourage us.” says Addison Clark a 6th grade Student Council member. Another Student Council member says “I like that we have the opportunity to help with stuff around the school and make it a better place!” Avery Jackson says, “We get to do things that other people don’t get to do and get to be leaders in the school community.”
To sum up, the Student Council is a great organization and a community making the school a better place. They are also great role models for the students and make the community more comfortable and a better place. If you think you are interested in the Student Council make sure to apply in fall of the school year of 2024-2025 for a chance to be on the 2024-2025 Student Council team.
