On Thursday March 21, and Friday March 22, the current 5th graders at EIS took a tour of EJHS. They got the basics on what the middle school experience and what they can expect coming into EJHS. Here's an article about the 5th graders' thoughts on coming into middle school, memories of when they were in 5th grade and student councils thoughts on getting to lead the tour.
This is an older picture of one of the band Mr. Koehler teaches. Similar to the one that performed for the 5th graders.
Starting off with what the 5th graders got to see on the trip. During the trip student council members lead groups of 5th graders throughout the school. They got to see the front office, various hallways, different related art classes and they got to meet some of the teachers that will be teaching them next year. The 5th graders also got to watch band members play instruments and both show choir groups perform one number in their show.
The 5th grade tours wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for the student council members leading them. “I really liked getting to see our future junior high students and what they would be like. They were so full of energy and were so excited to be seeing their future school,” Said Caitlyn Bayne, a 7th grade member of the student council. As for how the 5th grade tours were led, Caitlyn can also explain, “We all would start in the multi purpose room to watch the 8th grade band and 1 of the show choir groups. We would all get into groups and the student council members would show around the 5th graders like the design lab, library, Cafe, elective room, and other places. We would also show them how to open a locker.”. Beforehand, the student council also had to pick the groups they wanted to tour and what to wear as a group.
This has been caitlyn Bayne's first year as a member of the student council.
The EIS building holds students from 3-5 grade.
Now that you know what it was like for the student council members, what was it like for the 5th graders? “I liked seeing all the classrooms and stuff, it was very interesting getting to see all the chairs and how you could sit wherever you wanted,” Ethan Henry, a 5th grader at EIS said, when asked what his favorite part of the tours was. Ethan also said,”I’m probably most excited about the ice cream at lunch”.
So that's all to cover about the 5th grade tours! Thinking back to when you were in 5th grade, what was your favorite part about the tours? Or just your favorite memory in general? You can fill out your response in the google form below.
