There are so many fun holidays that you can celebrate but St Patrick’s Day has to be one of them. It is one holiday that many people really enjoy. St. Patrick's Day was originally celebrated in Ireland with religious services and feasts in honor of St. Patrick, one of Ireland's patron saints. When Irish immigrants brought St. Patrick's Day traditions in the United States, the day evolved into a secular celebration of Irish culture.
The March 17 celebration started in 1631 when the Church established a Feast Day honoring St. Patrick. He had been Patron Saint of Ireland who had died around the fifth century a whopping 12 centuries before the modern version of the holiday was first observed. Mr. Anspaugh a 6th grade ELA teacher at EJHS said this, " I don't normally wear green on this day but sometimes it just happens."
There is a saying that if you do not wear green on this day you are being disrespectful and that you should get pinched. Some people like to pull pranks on their families and their friends too. Some pranks I have heard are fun to do are dying water green, putting Lucky Charms around your house, and putting fake gold coins around the house. Making your milk green will also do the trick. Another trick that people do is move random things around your house. And some kids like to make a leprechaun trap.
Whitley Laffin, a 6th grader at EJHS said, “Well I mean I think it’s cool and all.” The old saying is if you catch a leprechaun they'll grant you three wishes to escape. Beyond being a fun family tradition, the idea behind leprechaun traps is steeped in Irish folklore. According to legend, leprechauns are a type of mischievous fairy that finds and hoards gold that they stow away in pots, this is a reason why little kids want to catch the leprechaun so badly.St Patrick's Day is a loved and fun holiday that people celebrate around the world.
