There are a lot of decades in the past and jewelry has been around for a very long time. It has been around longer than you think. Not only has jewelry been a thing for a long time, it also has changed throughout that time. It has changed from shells to shop produced beads made for the makings of jewelry.
Going back to 3000 to 400 BC, Iran, a civilization at the time, was wearing amulet stones with lots of meaning with scratches in them that made symbols that meant many meanings to them at the time. The word jewelry comes from the word jewel which comes from the old french word, “jouel” and the Latin word, “jostle.” The first sign of established jewelry making in Ancient Egypt was 3,000–5,000 years ago. The Egyptians preferred the luxury, rarity, and workability of gold over other metals. In Predynastic Egypt jewelry soon began to symbolize political and religious power in the community. And with that, the meaning of jewelry has started to grow.

After jewelry started, it became very popular with everyone; young, old, rich, poor. It was most common with the richer people but some people who couldn’t afford it would just make it. They would make it out of anything they could afford or find like shells and rocks. “I think it's really cool how jewelry has been around so long,” says Laura Chupp, a 6th grader who enjoys all the kinds of jewelry that we have nowadays.
Now that the past has been told, the jewelry that you typically see people wear now is also very interesting. You may see someone wearing a chain necklace, beaded bracelets, and diamond earrings that may have different meanings like past family members once owned them or a friendship bracelet with a best friend. Starla Deckard said, “My mom gave me a necklace that my great great grandma once owned and it is very special to me,” that shows that even if a necklace now doesn’t look like it shows purpose, it can have a very deep meaning.

Jewelry has been here for so long and has changed from place to place and material to material. They hold so many more memories that most people don't know about. Time and time again people are changing the looks of their jewelry or accessories. Pretty soon there will be new history and the jewelry we have now will be known as “older jewelry.”
