Godzilla X Kong. The New Empire

The king of The monsters returns! Godzilla will make his way back to the big screen for the 4th time in March in the new film, Godzilla X Kong: the New Empire. As the title implies, Kong will also be returning for his  3rd monsterverse movie appearance. This article will provide you with everything you need to know. From what to expect in the new movie, to an explanation of the movie trailers, to giving you background knowledge of the monsterverse movie saga.

After that comes the best movie of the saga, Godzilla King of the Monsters.  This movie had an overall audience rating of 4.3 stars. This movie has a lot of Titans. It features Godzilla as the main titan with  several other titans making their monsterverse Debut (as teased in the Kong: Skull island post-credit scene) These brand new Titans are Monster Zero (More commonly known as king  ghidorah) who is frozen in ice in antarctica, has 3 heads 2 wings 2 tails and lightning breath, Mothra who is a giant big powerful moth with web shooters (no, not like spider man), and Rodan, a fiery pterodactyl. The humans also  play a big part in this movie. An organization called Monarch has emerged from hiding  and is trying to avoid government control. Monarch Wants to peacefully coexist with The titans, but  let them come out on their own.   Dr Emma Russel  invented a device to bring titans out of hiding. She believes that the titans need to be released because it was their world first. She released Monster Zero. with monster zero’s return drew the attention of the big man. Godzilla! He returns for the first time in 5 years and has a short fight with  ghidorah. Godzilla goes back into the Ocean and Monster Zero is lost in a Tropical Storm.  The next place that  Emma Russel goes to is Isla De Mara where she frees Rodan. Rodan  takes down a lot of monarchs fighters and the tropical storm where Monster Zero was lost changes course and heads for them. Rodan Gets in a short battle with Monster Zero.  Monster Zero sends Rodan  back, but he doesn’t get a break. Godzilla! He’s back again. He has another fight with Ghidorah.Godzilla bites off one of his heads. But he has regenerative abilities. (more about that later).  Monarch’s Helicopter is watching and then they get called by the military. The Military has sent out a missile called the Oxygen Destroyer. It is supposed to wipe out all life in a 2 mile Radius. Monarch escapes from the missile. It hits the two Titans battling. They both fall into the sea.  Ghidorah comes flying out of the sea! The DRs on the helicopter realize that ghidorah is of alien origins and that the Oxygen Destroyer didn’t kill him because of that. Godzilla is part of earth's natural order so he began falling down into the water, but then Mothra came out of her cocoon  and  could sense where Godzilla was, so she shined light above where Godzilla was. 

  Mark Russell (Emma Russell’s ex wife)  decided to try and recharge Godzilla with Nukes.  While this was happening Monster Zero returned to  Isla De Mara and stood atop the Volcano that Rodan was asleep in. Rodan bows to Ghidorah, accepting him as the Alpha Titan and the King of the Monsters. By doing this Rodan betrayed Godzilla, because he bowed to Godzilla in ancient times. Fun Fact it was originally expected that Rodan would be on Godzilla’s side. This was actually considered before making the movie. Legendary likely made it this way because Godzilla, Mothra, and Rodan together would whip Ghidora’s butt. Back to the summary. Ghidora let out a call to the other Titans in their prisons. This woke them up and freed them.  Some titans he freed include Behemoth, A giant wooly Mammoth, Scylla, a spider- like titan with a squid-like body and crab-like feet, and Queen M.U.T.O., another female M.U.T.O..   Mark Russel, Dr Serisawa, and Dr Chen, and Dr Stanton take a submarine down to Godzilla. They find out that they are in the hollow earth, the birthplace of all Titans. Godzilla had gone back to his home to charge up, the doctors considered letting him charge, but they realized this process could take years.  They also find out that the missile launch cannons were damaged so they can’t fire them.  In order to detonate the bomb  manually and set a timer  they won’t have enough time to get back to the sub safely before the heat and radiation fries them.  Knowing this Dr. Serisawa agrees to do it. Dr. Chen strongly  disagrees but Serisawa tells them that they don’t have time to debate this while Ghidora is out there and no other Titan can stand a chance against him.  Serisawa gets down there and sets the nuke timer for 1 minute. With his last minute of life he walks over to godzilla and says, “Goodbye, old friend.” The bomb goes off and the rest of the Drs from Monarch barely escape, they get back to Sam Coleman and the rest of the Monarch workers. Godzilla  wakes up and fires his signature blue atomic breath up at the sky. It seems as this is his way of saying,  I’m Back! Monarch decides they have to join the fight so they provide Godzilla with a helicopter escort.   

Emma Russell's daughter, Madison, took Emma’s device to draw the Titans to Fenway Park in Boston. Ghidorah is the first of the four to arrive. He destroys Fenway with Madison Russell still standing in Fenway, turns around and sees Godzilla, she smiles and then gets out of there. Godzilla and Ghidorah duke it out in a big time battle, Mothra  soon arrives and blasts webs at Ghidorah’s heads, pinning them to a building. Godzilla walks through the building and pushes ghidorah through it with him. Mothra dives towards them to help Godzilla when Rodan comes sweeping through and hitting Mothra. Godzilla keeps slamming Ghidorah into buildings when Ghidorah bites an electricity wire and he blasts lightning all over. It takes out all but one of Monarch's helicopters.  Rodan pins Mothra to a building and almost sets Mothra on fire, Mothra Bats Rodan in the Head, Rodan drops back and charges at Mothra. Mothra dodges several bite attamps and then stabs him.    Ghidorah  dives on top of Godzilla and flies up into space while choke holding godzilla. Ghidorah drops him down as he lands down on the surface. Mothra climbs on Godzilla’s  back and flashes her wings, Shielding Godzilla. Mothra tries to attack Ghidorah, but he fires Lightning back at her  Mothra transfers her radiation and energy to Godzilla. Godzilla gains  power but doesn’t have enough time to stand. Ghidorah bites Godzilla with all three heads! Emma Russel  Takes the monster calling device  and puts it in the back of the van. She drives around Boston to Draw Ghidorah away from Godzilla. Ghidorah wrecks  the van and eats the device. Emma Russel with her last word says, “Long Live the King” as a Godzilla Burning with  fiery radiation comes in. Ghidorah turns his heads and is ready to fight. Godzilla blasts radiation at Ghidorah disintegrating his wings.  He does it again, this time disintegrating his two side heads this time. Godzilla stomps on him , disintegrating his two tails and later his body. The radiation wears off and Godzilla is back to normal. He chews up the neck of Ghidorah’s remaining head. And uses his atomic breath  to blast the final head off into the sea. Godzilla climbs  on a hill and becomes surrounded by the other titans. Behemoth, Scylla, Queen M.U.T.O  and Rodan. He survived Mothra and  Bowed to Godzilla. Godzilla grows at him but lets him live, forming a circle around the 4 surrounding Godzilla are the other 9 Titans including Methuselah, the last of the titans mentioned in this movie. With the rest of the Titans bowing to him, Godzilla roars at the sky and the movie comes to a close. 

 While the movie credits roll it shows newspaper headlines about the titans. The Titans except for Godzilla return to their sleep that they were in before they started waking up from the 1940s to 2019. Monarch released their studies to the public. 70 years of studies for everyone to see. Rodan was nesting in a Fiji volcano. Godzilla’s path through the Ocean brings back fish.  Behemoth restored the amazon rainforest.  Scylla helped stabilize sea levels. The humans are able to use Titan waste for energy and use titan superfoods to help solve the hunger crisis.  In the cave paintings that were shown in Kong: Skull Island there was another painting that was not shown at the end of Kong: Skull Island.   It was a painting that showed Kong leaping at godzilla. This is obviously a teaser to Godzilla vs Kong.  There was another post credit scene of a man buying  the ghidorah skull of the head that Godzilla bit off.  Another easter egg in this movie is M.U.T.O. Prime’s skull and body caan be seen in a Monarch Outpost early on in this movie. While many fans loved this movie the critics did not. This is because as a movie it is missing a lot of things, but as a Godzilla movie it hits the spot. 

Godzilla vs Kong is what brought me to this saga so it is special.  Godzilla attacks a company called APEX. The humans think Godzilla has become their enemy. Madison Russel thinks Godzilla is being provoked by something they are not seeing.  Bernie Hayes, the host of the Titan Truth Podcast, also thinks this. So Madison and her friend Josh team up to find Bernie. While this is happening Kong is getting mad about his containment site on Skull Island. Dr Iline Andrews and her adopted daughter Jia  notice this, but they both know he can’t leave because Godzilla will come for him if he leaves.  Two members of APEX come to find Dr Nathan Lind and they want him to help them get into the Hollow Earth. APEX needs energy from here to power a top secret project. Dr Lind realizes that the Hollow Earth is the birthplace of all Titans and that a Titan could show the way. Dr Lind comes to Dr Andrews and they agree to take Kong to the hollow earth. Kong is sitting on an aircraft carrier when Godzilla comes. With the water being Godzilla’s turf Kong ultimately lost and Godzilla destroyed almost all of their fleet.

 They take Kong to Antarctica in the air to get to the Hollow Earth entry point.  Madison and Josh find Bernie and he agrees to show them what he saw in APEX headquarters in Florida. The tech Bernie saw during Godzilla's attack was gone. Madison finds an elevator, Bernie  remembers that APEX is shipping something to their headquarters in Hong Kong and that it’s on sublevel 33. They take the elevator and they see 3 giant shipping container-like things. They hide in one to avoid being seen. Then it gets shipped off in an underground tunnel that sends it to Hong Kong. They are also riding with Skull Crawler eggs. Meanwhile Kong  finally goes down to the hollow earth. (The hollow earth is like a smaller earth within the earth.) Kong quickly has an encounter with some creatures in the Hollow Earth called warbats. He defeats the two he fights and continues to explore. Kong finds a temple that his ancestors were in. Of course they weren't there now. Kong takes a battle ax that can absorb Godzilla's atomic breath.  He takes the Ax and sits down on the throne, becoming the king of the hollow earth. Madison, Josh, and Bernie arrive in Hong Kong. They get there and make a shocking discovery. APEX is making a Mechagodzilla and they are using the Skull crawlers as test dummies.  The tech Bernie saw was one of Mechagodzillas eyes.! Mechagodzilla defeats a Skull Crawler with ease and is ready for battle.  They also find out that the pilot center for Mechagodzilla is in the Ghidorah head that was found in the King of the Monsters post credit scene.  The APEX agents in the hollow earth try to take some energy and they have a big argument. Kong crushes the APEX agents and the rest of them have to get out of there, because Godzilla arrived in Hong Kong and blasted his atomic breath into the ground. This created another hollow earth Tunnel. Since the gravity is inverted in the hollow earth Kong jumps down a hole and then comes up through the ground. Jia, Dr Lind, and Dr Andrews get in the aircraft and also escape the hollow earth. Bernie, Josh and Madison get found by APEX and they are taken to the boss.

 Round 2 of Godzilla V.S. Kong  had Godzilla searchlight scanning for Kong with his atomic breath across the city. Kong comes out and Leaps up in the air with his ax and Godzilla blasts atomic breath at it. Kong brings  it down on Godzilla’s head and round 2 goes to Kong.  Godzilla gets up and just gives Kong everything he has and pins him to the ground. Godzilla lets Kong live out of respect. MechaGodzilla Comes out of APEX headquarters, but the pilot is disconnected and the pilot is fried. With Mechagodzilla acting on his own, Godzilla tries to fight but fails because he was tired out from fighting Kong. Jia feels Kong’s heartbeat and that it is slowing. They blow up the aircraft to restart Kong’s heart. Kong joins the fight. Kong uses his ax to crush Mechagodzilla with the   help of Godzilla. APEX’s CEO dies during this.  Some say that if Kong didn’t have his ax, Mechagodzilla would have won. Some  also say that if Godzilla was at 100% we could have won on his own. Madison Russell reunites with her father and Godzilla walks into the ocean to end the movie. Many thought that this was the concluding movie due to the lack of a post credit scene and Kong being the last of the Titans to Bow to Godzilla, and Kong becoming the king of the Hollow Earth. 

Now we can turn our attention to the new movie. There are a few questions about the new trailer.  Some of the most common things that there are questions about include Godzilla’s new pink look, Kong’s  Glove thing that he was on his hand and the villains of the movie.  The two big confirmed villains have been Skar King and Shimu. Skar King seems to be a predator of Kong;s species; he has awakened due to Kong becoming the King of the Hollow Earth. He is seen in the Hollow earth throughout the trailer. He seems to be ruling over smaller Kongs. There are also red handprints on these young Kongs. These handprints can also be seen on Skull Island and in the Hollow earth in the trailer for Godzilla X Kong and in Godzilla v.s. Kong. These prints could mean something like, “I was here.” or worse “This is mine.”  Skar King also  has what seems to be a bone whip strung over his shoulder. This could be used as a weapon against Godzilla and Kong or used to whip the young Kongs which it seems he has enslaved. There is not much known about Shimu. What we do know  is that he has some sort of ice ability. Whether or not he can fly is TBD.  Shimu is also said to be the first Titan.  It is expected that in the Movie Skar King might have some control over Shimu.

  Now onto Godzilla,  In the trailer you can see that the parts of Godzilla that were previously blue are now pink. But why? It has been stated in an article that he is evolving into a more powerful form. In other parts of the movie trailer you can see pink crystals in the Hollow Earth. This could mean that Godzilla is  drawing power from the crystals. Another thing that matches the color of godzilla is his signature atomic breath. The effects of his magenta atomic breath are uncertain. On  the heat spectrum blue is one of the hottest colors if not the hottest and red is on the other end at one of the cooler colors. Magenta is not found here but on the color chart magenta is a combination of red and blue, the hottest and the coldest color which makes the effects uncertain. Godzilla also lost a bit of weight, making him able to run faster, as seen in the trailer. Godzilla also gained more dorsal plates on his tail, making his tail an even more deadly weapon than it already was. His arms also seem longer and stronger which could make Godzilla the 2nd most powerful he’s been in the monsterverse. (1st being when he had all of mothra’s radiation in King of the Monsters, and disintegrated Ghidorah’s heads.) Why Godzilla has turned pink is unclear. But there is a theory that the secondary villain in this movie, Shimu, Shimu  could have fought Godzilla before this movie took place and beat him. If this is the case Godzilla is doing this to level the playing field and not just because. 

 As for Kong There are a few things worth noting. The first and most obvious one is Kong’s glove. This likely is on him due to an injury. This could be caused by Skar King or something else. In the trailer we see Kong being chased by a group of creatures that look similar to hyenas and he narrowly escapes. Could these creatures have caused this? It is uncertain. It seems that Monarch would have made the glove  for Kong, because who else could have? It is less likely but still possible that Kong just got this upgrade to make him stronger and not to heal his arm, or it could be for both.  This development must happen in the middle of the movie because there are scenes in the trail that show him without the glove. In the scenes where Kong does not have the glove he does have his ax. So is Kong’s glove also a replacement for his ax? The last change to Kong is that his fur seems to have a bit of gray in it, and his beard has grown out a bit too. Why this happened is unknown, but what is going around is that the director just wanted to make Kong this way. The last question about the trailer is that in Brazil, a claw type thing crushes a man on the street. What this thing is, is unknown. It might be Shimu, or another new titan, or it could be a Skylla claw. 

The four confirmed titans in this film are Godzilla, Kong, Shimu, and Skar King.  There are several other titans on the bubble. A Titan that the Fandom would love to be brought back is Mothra. Even though she is dead she did lay an egg before she died. (this was one of the news headlines in the King of the Monsters) However, we do not know how long Mothra’s egg will take to hatch. Another factor in Mothra’s reappearance is the budget for the new movie. Mothran was originally a Toho character which means that Toho still has the rights to Mothra. So it kind of depends on if Legendary can pay to use Mothra in the movie. It will also cost money to redesign Mothra because they will have to make what comes out of the egg look a little different than Mothra. This is partly why King of the Monsters did not make that much money, because they had to spend a lot of money on rights for Ghidora, Mothra, Godzilla, and Rodan.   Rodan is also in contention for a spot in this new movie. It would be easy for Rodanto to return because he is still alive. They will just have to wake him up from his sleep in a Fiji volcano.  Godzilla could easily call him to wake him up, as he could with other Titans.  However, Rodan is the type of character who might only do something if something is in it for him. He might appear and try to be the alpha if he thinks the current one is dead. Ghidorah has a chance of coming back in this movie.  An important fact about Ghidorah is that he has neurons throughout his body, so any part of him can act as a brain, even his bones have neurons in them. In Rebirth of Mothra 3 he was able to regenerate his entire body from one of his tails. Ghidorah could also return in the form of Mecha-king ghidorah. He was mecha king ghidorah in godzilla vs king ghidorah. He could regenerate from the skull that was used to pilot mecha godzilla. The head that godzilla ate was the head that could most commonly get taken off, so there could be a dozen ghidorah heads scattered around the earth.   The Skullcrawlers could come back because there is a way to get into the Hollow Earth from Skull Island. Also in the film synapsis it said that the movie would dive deeper into the mysteries of Skull Island. So the Skullcrawlers are a possibility in this movie, The Warbats could be in this movie also, if a lot of this movie takes place in the hollow earth then it is likely we could see some warbats down there.  Behemoth could return too. Some of the films will take place in Rio, Brazil. Behemoth happens to dwell in this area.  Behemoth was originally supposed to be in Godzilla vs Kong but that scene was scrapped due to heavy edits. The most likely Toho Monster to make a debut in this movie is Angerius. The Monster was both an ally and an enemy to Godzilla. There was a member of the Angerius species skeleton in the area where Godzilla was revived. So Angerius could be in this movie or a different member of his species.  There will be several  human characters returning In this movie. Madison Russel will be back for the 3rd straight movie. It is highly likely that her dad, Mark Russel will reappear. Bernie will also be back in this movie. So will Jia, Dr Andrews and Dr Lind will all be returning from Godzilla vs Kong. Dan Stevens will have a role in this new movie as Stephen Randa.  Adam Wingard, The director of Godzilla vs Kong will be directing this new movie   making him the first ever person to direct two of the Monsterverse movies. It is unknown whether or not this will be the conclusion to the Monsterverse. 

With this I can tell you that Godzilla X Kong will be a pretty good movie. I hope that you are also Pumped for this movie.  See you at the theater?
