If you have realized, at Edgewood there aren’t very many breaks. There are only a few including: Spring break, summer break, fall break, winter break, and other one-day breaks. If you are a student you probably know how difficult school is and just want to have a break. Does the school do that? Not really. Through the middle of the week most students just want it to be the weekend, after two days of the weekend, a full week of school again, and the cycle repeats. Why should we have more breaks? Simple explanation! Students getting breaks gives them a fresh mind for another school day. And it would be really hard to just keep going to school every morning, waking up and going to school. The last thing is it actually improves students' learning experience.
Now how does getting a break refresh and give them a clear mind? You might already know why, but if you don't, here's why. Getting a clear mind is different for everyone. For some people it’s forgetting about all the stressful things going on. For others it’s something like getting more sleep to be more productive in the day. And anything related to that is important. Alana Armstrong, a 6th grader at EJHS says, “The breaks help me take a rest to help me not only be prepared, but ready to come back to school.” This is also a very important idea, it’s not just getting time to rest or refresh your mind but to also help you be prepared for the next time you go to school.
Really hard to go to school? How does that work? It’s very difficult for most students to even find the strength to get out of bed and go to school, especially because of how early it is. Think about it, you have to wake up around 6:00 am, get dressed and all that, then you have to actually get to school on time, which is only around 7:00 in the morning! And I’m sure no one can forget about the feeling of missing the bus(if you're a bus rider) or forgetting something at home. Someone who agrees with this statement, Zoey Carter, a 6th grader at EJHS, says, “I think it can stress the kids out with being late or forgetting their things at home.”
Does more breaks help students' learning abilities or does it worsen? The answer, it actually helps. It has actually been proven that taking more breaks for students actually improves their potential for success. This is especially true if the student spends their day working on a computer screen. Onlineschools.org did a test and found out that the students who studied with a break were more efficient than the students who didn’t take a break.
This shows why taking more breaks during the school years is so important! Whether it’s resting, reducing stress, improving academic performance, or being prepared, it all matters. That is why there should be more breaks.
