Do you ever get sick of days being added on to the end of the school year? Well what if we never added extra days to the year? Instead what if when we got to our limit of snow days and the weather still won’t accommodate we will just do E-learning days and we can still have our whole summer break to ourselves. No matter the bad weather, summer break still matters!
Just because the weather is bad doesn’t mean we should make up for it instead accommodate OUR own schedule which e-learning does perfectly. “I think we should have more e-learning days because don’t want to waste my summer on going to school because we had bad weather,” says Madeline Jackson, a 6th grader at EJHS. When the weather is severely bad there’s not much we can do except for canceling school. Our school limit is 3 built-in snow days when we are allowed and able to miss school. When the weather has already used those 3 days but wants to take a 4th there is a perfect solution to solving that. E-learning! Of course we use this option when necessary but it’s also a lot harder on teachers when they add on days. When they have to do another day that they didn’t get to finish their lesson and have to go back after moving on it’s really confusing and stressful on both ends.
Some families use those days for vacation so they would have to make up for those days. Elementary and Middle/high school students go to camp a few days after school and they won’t be able to go because school will have extra days; some camps only are open one time during summer. “Many elementary and middle school students have camps to attend and high school students have jobs they’re committed to starting.” says The Pitch This makes it hard when some people have things to commit to. It won’t get you a refund for missing your camp or your job back if you have to back out of work.
Students are able to take breaks when you need them and they will also be able to work at their own pace causing less stress. Some young students have trouble focusing for long periods of time so it’s important for them to take breaks. According to Edutopia, “Breaks keep our brains healthy and play a key role in cognitive abilities such as reading comprehension and divergent thinking.” This is why kids need to take breaks in order to refresh or get their minds off of something.
Students should have more E-learning days because even if the weather is bad doesn’t mean we should have to make up for it at the end of the year. Families also use those days for vacation causing students to make up for it later in the summer. If we have more E-learning days then students will be able to take breaks when needed and they will have less stress.
