Millions of people are math and english whizzes, but we’ve all been wondering, which one is liked more? A recent study shows overall for the 2023 year people have chosen math more than reading. In my opinion I would rather choose math. I like challenging my brain to problems with tons of numbers and symbols. According to a poll, math is liked better than reading.
There are some people who like reading more, like Tatum Robertson, who says, “Reading is so much better. There is a lot more to learn from it and it is so much more entertaining.” But another person, Kierston Walker, says, “I think that math is better because with reading you just read a bunch of words on a page but with math you actually get to work out stuff and solve problems.” I think that math is so much better than reading for so many reasons, and that quote was another reason as well.
A study shows that students have chosen math more than reading. A vote from students around the world showed that 58% liked math and 42% liked reading, though the numbers are close, this still shows that math is liked more. I got this information from a website called Pew Research Center. Another study shows that math is the most liked subject according to school groups, you can find more information at byjus.com. Math also helps us have better problem-solving skills.
Some people also enjoy math more because it’s more challenging than reading. Reading just means looking at pictures, or if it’s a novel, then just reading lots of words. Math is way more challenging and interesting. In math you get to learn all of these crazy symbols and learn new equations, there’s really no limit to what you can read, as well as no limit to what you can solve.
Although both subjects are very crucial for life, I believe that math is more important. Math is crucial for a job in the future. Math is also crucial in the future if you have a bank account, if you go out shopping, getting groceries, buying toys and food. You need to understand math to add all of these purchases up. Math is essential for problem-solving, critical thinking, and understanding the world around us, while reading is crucial for communication. "I think math is better because it is more interactive and you use more of the skills later in life." says Madeline Jackson.
Some people don’t even know which one they like better! Some people love reading and math equally and can’t choose which they like more. Some kids at EJHS are in Math Bowl, some are in English Bowl, and sometimes, like my friend, would like to enjoy and do both after school activities. In the end, it is really hard to decide which you like better, reading, or math, but after all of this, they are both just subjects in school enjoyed by many students.
