Is Animal Testing Wrong?
By: Laura Chupp
You might be at home, doing something as simple as washing your hands. Did you know something so simple could be harming or killing animals? This can happen because of animal testing. Animal testing is when companies test products like shampoo on animals. I think that animal testing is wrong. I think it's wrong because it kills animals, it takes a lot of time, and it could cost millions.
This is a common symbol that proves something isn't animal tested.
My first reason is that it kills animals. Animal testers can do things to animals like force feed chemicals, break their spines, put wires in their brains, and much worse.
“It’s horrific what the animal testers are doing to the poor, living animals,” says Danielle Milam, a sixth grader at EJHS. Do you really want that to happen to a sweet animal like a bunny? It's just plain inconsiderate to think these animals don’t deserve to live. Also, after experimenting with these poor animals, they kill them. Ohioanimaladvocates.org says that over 500,000 animals die per year from cosmetic testing alone. 97% of all animals in experiments die.
My second reason is that it takes a lot of time. Scientists waste four to five years on animal testing. Only 8% of these experiments actually help humanity. Would you waste your time on torturing animals and mostly failing? Who would want to do that? I wouldn’t want to waste time on something like that! Almost 100% of students think it's wrong to animal test. What about you?
My third reason is that it can be high in cost. It can cost millions of dollars to do a test that mostly fails. Would you waste money on a failing, cruel, and destroying experiment?
“I think animal testing is a waste of money because they are spending a lot on things that aren’t even necessary,” says Julia Schliesser, a student at EJHS. This is my point exactly. Maybe people should think twice before animal testing.
This is one symbol that shows something is not animal tested.
Overall, animal testing is a horrible thing because it kills animals, takes years, and is really expensive. You should know by now that I highly disagree with animal testing and I hope, by now, that you will agree; animal testing is a problem. If you want to share your opinion, fill out the survey below.
