Are you ready for the Indiana winter percussion state champs to come back for their next season? The next Winter percussion season is coming up again at Edgewood! If you don’t know what winter percussion is, it is like marching band where they have a show and march but they do it indoors and it is only percussion instruments like drums.

For winter percussion Edgewood has won the state championship 2 years in a row. And Mr. Koehler, the junior high band teacher, says, “This year the show is called Spy vs Spy and the show has a theme of two different teams of spies fighting against each other.” Mr. Koehler also says that there are about 39 people doing winter percussion this year and that the state competition is going to be on Saturday April 6th. Mr. Koehler also says that he thinks that the last season went really well and that he thinks that this season will go pretty well. Mr. Koehler lastly says “The uniforms look kind of like army uniforms but they don’t completely.”
There are a lot of good songs but what songs did they choose this year? Well, Richie Maloney, a senior that plays tenor/quad says, “Even though the music is really hard this year I really like what songs they chose.” And he also says that “The songs are" Another way to die, by Jack White and Alicia Keys, No time to die, by Billie Elish, and Living let die, by Guns and Roses.” Richard Maloney says that he really enjoys winter percussion and that his favorite part is. He says that the winter percussion practices are long and challenging but rewarding and that competition days are really long and tiring. And lastly he says that his favorite part of winter percussion is getting to practice and perform and just hang out with his friends.

Ben Welch, an 8th grader that plays snare drum says that he thinks the music is hard but fun and that he really likes it. He also says that the practices are long but fun because he gets to hang out with his friends. Ben says that the competitions are pretty long and that they can last anywhere from 8 to 12 hours. Lastly Ben says “My favorite part of winter percussion is getting to hang out with my friends a lot more than I normally would.”
