On March 4, 2024, the 6th Grade band concert took place in the main gymnasium and the concert went on from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM. The concert was a side-by-side concert, which is where two separate classes alternate songs. The other group playing with the 6th grade band was the 7th grade jazz band. The 6th grade band played four different songs with brand new sheet music and the 7th grade jazz band played two songs, “Centerpiece,” and “Rock the House."
Overall, the concert went pretty well and both bands got to play their songs. This was the 6th grade 2nd band concert this school year. “ I thought it was a great concert for the groups. They were very well prepared. The 6th grade could have used one more practice on the standing-up parts of ‘Popcorn Prelude’. For the 7th Jazz Band, I would have liked to let the soloists practice one more round.” says Mr. Koehler, the band director here at EJHS.
Both bands in the EJHS gymnasium
Alana Armstrong, a 6th-grade student and member of the woodwinds class, said, “My favorite part about the band concert was that we all had really nice harmonies and we all had our own unique parts which makes the music really pretty.” Both the brass and woodwinds & percussion class played decently well for their first time performing together and did well at their new sheet music. There was a larger crowd watching the concert than last time and the bleachers were practically full. There were also people filming the concert and the video will be given out for people who couldn't go to watch it soon.
6th grade band after performing
In conclusion, the band's concert went smoothly. It was the 6th grade classes first time playing together and for their first time it went pretty good. The performance went well for both the 6th and 7th grade classes and overall it was a nice first concert for both classes together.
