At EJHS there are many sports to choose from and one of them is swimming, the swim team at EJHS includes all grades 6-8. This year practice started on January 18th, the practices are held at the High School. The coaches are Mrs. Musslewhite, Mr. Straw, and Mr. Kohne. To join there is a form you can fill out and then go from there.
If you have ever thought about swimming it is a really great sport, it has a lot of health benefits. One of the many benefits that swimming provides is that it works your whole entire body. Another one is it helps make your heart and lungs strong, it also is a great fun way to get the amount of exercise needed each day.
Many swimmers that have been on the team or joined the team this year enjoy the sport. Poppy Bishop, a sixth grader who joined this year said, “I really like it and I think it is fun and a good way to learn about a team and I like the coaches, they push us hard enough but are still really nice.” Another swimmer, Avi Grile who is a returning 7th grader said, “I really enjoy the swimming environment. The coaches and people are nice, and it just challenges you.”
Mr. Straw, one of the coaches, said “I enjoy swimming because it is a lifelong sport.” when asked why he coaches swimming. He also enjoys being on the team and helping students out. Mrs. Musselwhite has been coaching swimming here at Edgewood since 2005. She said, “I was a high school and college swimmer and love being able to share something that has been such an important part of my life with our student athletes.”
Overall swimming is a very beneficial sport. So if you enjoy swimming it might be something to think about in the future because it is a sport many people enjoy. This is a current schedule for the swim meets, changes might be made to it later.
