This is Sophia with her dad Micah Mobley after she won her first meet at Owen Valley
Sophia Mobley started running when she was about 10 to 11 in 5th grade. “I started because my dad was a high school coach,” said Sophia. “He kind of just always talked about how he wanted to experience his own kids running and I just wanted to try it.” Sophia is now in 7th grade and runs on the Edgewood cross country and track team.
Her dad was also the one who inspired her to start running. She said “my dad had been a coach for so long and I could see how far he could get some of his runners.” She also said that she likes cross country better and she uses swimming to help with running and track to help with cross country. She runs distance in track, who are the people who run longer, like the mile. Now the way that track and cross country are different is in cross country you run in the woods and not in a circle the whole time. Also people watch you in track because you're not in the woods or on trails. In Cross Country you have longer runs.
Sophia says that one of our favorite parts about running is the team because it's a good group of people and one of the best parts is to have a good bond with the team. She said that she likes that there's a lot of competition because we don't have very small teams for cross country or track. She said “Josephine Buckley for example she's been my competition kind of all season like cross country season she was just that competition at our meets and everything to kind of just keep me going and getting better.”
What exactly do runners think about while they’re running all of those miles? You’ve probably wondered that while watching them run down the road. Sophia Mobley Says that “it kind of just depends, like at track it's easier because you think like each lap or 100 you try to focus on something.” She will sometimes focus on her breathing for one lap or a couple 100s then she said she’ll focus on her form.

Lots of people have goals for running. For Sophia that is to run through middle school and high school. “I just really want to be good in high school,” said Sophia. “I don't know college, it's just like that's a lot of pressure but I feel like that would be a cool experience to get to go to college for running.” Sophia will continue to represent Edgewood and will do great in years to come.
