You all have probably played or at least heard of Dodgeball. Maybe you’ve played in the tournament here at school, but do you know the history of it? The Dodgeball Movie? The National Dodgeball League? This article will tell all about one of the most iconic sports ever!
In Dodgeball, 6 balls are placed on the ground and you have to throw them at the other players. When someone gets hit they are out. If you throw the ball and someone catches it you are out. Those are the three basic rules.
Dodgeball started around 200 years ago in Africa, but this time with a deadly twist. Instead of the Dodgeballs you know today they would throw rocks! The goal of the game was to hurt the opponent with the rocks. Of course, it is not played like that anymore but it is still crazy how they used to injure each other!
Dodgeball isn’t just a game there is also a Movie about it! Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story was released on June 18th, 2004. The movie is currently free to watch on HBO Max. It is rated PG-13 and it has a 71% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Believe it or not, there is an actual dodgeball league! The National Dodgeball League, or the NDA, is a league from all across the country. Some of the teams include The Oregon Avalanche, The New York Epic, Pittsburgh Punishers, and The Texas Shade.
