All the time people wish they could help the world in any way. However, we rarely ever have the time or resources to actually help, except one place. First of all, what is Hoosier Hills Food Bank, Hoosier Hills Food Bank is a corporation that has a mission to collect, store and distribute food. They were founded in November 1982, in Bloomington Indiana, when a small group of volunteers noticed that food was going to waste. Within one full year of working they had distributed 81,000 pounds of food. However, they donāt only distribute food, they have done numerous book fairs and this year did a pie run. They also do programs, they have one called garden and cleaning. In this they provided fresh grown food for people in need of emergency food assistance.
Second, what does the Hoosier Hills Food Bank do? Well Hoosier Hills Food Bank collects food and sends it to nonprofit organizations that feed the hungry. They do this for Brown, Lawrence, Orange, Owen, Martin and Monroe counties in Indiana. Also in 2017 they distributed 4,223,459 pounds of food and 1,154,936 pounds of fresh produce. In fact since opening they have distributed 60 million pounds of food! Although the warehouse they work in is a huge success they also do a mobile pantry. The mobile pantry collects food, however, they then deliver the food directly to people in need.Ā
Third, where is the Hoosier Hills Food Bank? The Hoosier Hills Food Bank is in Bloomington Indiana. They have been in several warehouses including the one there now. They also own many trucks for their traveling pantries. They are open 9AM to 5AM every day except the weekend.
