Mrs. DeMoss is the Boss, (Until Next Year?)

5th grade,  the last year of elementary school, the year before the many changes that come with middle school, and a year of many friendships. (At least for our school network) Mrs. DeMoss is one of the teachers that make the 5th year special. From the outside projects to the Iditarod challenges, she really is one of the greatest 5th-grade teachers to ever work at the Edgewood Schools Corporation. Unfortunately, after this year, she won't be here. Read on to find out more.

Mrs. DeMoss has been teaching for 24 years. This year will be her 25th year, which is a very long time teaching. She went to college at Indiana University, and is currently known as a fifth-grade teacher but has also taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Mrs. DeMoss thinks that this year is,”  like any other year and I want to make it the best year that I can. It's just another 5th-grade year and I’m going to try and make the best of it!'' She said that her students have taught her too many things to mention all of them, but two particular things were teaching her about technology and patience. Mrs. DeMoss has been teaching high-ability classes for around 10 years. She actually didn't start teaching high ability until fifteen years after she started. She is very excited about doing outdoor activities and a final project at the end. After this year, she hopes to travel a lot more than she did and watch the Iditarod.

We asked former and current students what they thought about Mrs. DeMoss and her classroom. Bricen Collins, a former student of Mrs. DeMoss, said,” I liked how she was always very fun when it came to doing team activities she was always very energetic about it. Her classroom was a very relaxed environment.” Also, Kinley Butler (Also a former student) said that Mrs. DeMoss was one of her favorite teachers of all time.  Even students who had Mrs. DeMoss almost 2 years ago still can remember that year and how fun it was, 7th grader, Brilee Lafever, when asked about what she thought about Mrs. DeMoss's retirement, replied," I wish she wasn't retiring because she's a good teacher and it's easy to learn with her teaching because she's calm and patient."

Two years ago we had Mrs. DeMoss as a teacher and think she is a wonderful teacher! We did multiple fun activities all throughout the year and were prepared for 6th grade. We are sad she is retiring, but she deserves it. If you had her last year and you agree with what we said, you can put a response in the form below!
