Some people may wonder what procrastination even is and may wonder if they are procrastinating. What does procrastination even mean? Procrastination is where you avoid or delay something until later or even last minute. In fact, procrastination affects around 20% of adults worldwide. There are several studies that have shown that procrastination can lead to low self- esteem, depression and anxiety.Ā If you think you are procrastinating and you want to stop, here are some tips to avoid procrastination.
If you find yourself procrastinating on something, think about what you're procrastinating on. It could be something like a project or a homework assignment. Then, think of a reason why you might be procrastinating. You need to acknowledge that you are procrastinating, and try not to feel bad about it. If you know what you are procrastinating on, then you can try and start on it and get a better understanding of how you need to do the task. If there are any distractions keeping you from doing the task then try to eliminate them. Eliminating distractions will help you be able to focus on what you want to focus on.

The next thing you would want to do is set goals you can reach. Like doing all of your work at once. Many people might procrastinate because the task might seem too big or too difficult for them to do. Some people might not know what task to start with. Dividing work into smaller tasks might make it easier for people to handle. Another thing you can do is not try and set an unreasonable time for yourself. Time restrictions are good for when you want to finish at a certain time so that you do not overwork yourself.Ā āI set a timer or an alarm for when I needed to clean my room.ā says Dorothy Hamilton, a 6th grader at EJHS.
The last thing you might want to do is take a break. Taking a break might seem like procrastinating but it really isnāt. If you can find good times to take a break or if you can find a good amount of time to take a break, it can be really helpful. Overcoming procrastination can be hard, it takes a lot of serious behaviors and tasks. It can sometimes be ok to put things off, but you are responsible for the task you do and the tasks you donāt do.
{If you set a good time for yourself to work and take a break, it will be easier to avoid procrastination.}
Overcoming procrastination can be hard. It takes a lot of motivation and serious actions to do. If you are trying to complete certain tasks remember that some distractions can be tempting, like checking your phone. It can be hard, but with a good schedule and good understanding of break time procrastination might not be so much of a problem.
