Band:Ā have you ever wondered what it is like to be in band? Well this is what it takes and what it is like. Band is a place where you learn to play songs on trombone, tuba, baritone, trumpet, alto saxophone, flute, clarinet, or you could switch to percussion.
Once you join band it is very important to listen because you will have concerts with the rest of the class and your family will be watching you. At a concert you can solo, when you play a song of your choice alone. You can also mess up pretty badly and hit the wrong note too low or too high. Once you hit a high note it can be very embarrassing and you have the opposite problem as other people. The average problem is hitting notes that are too low. Maggie Cooper, a 7th grader at EJHS and plays the flute says, "Well it's a great place to meet friends and honestly playing an instrument is a lot of fun."
This year the students in 6th grade already had a concert. At the concert they played things like "Mary had a Little Lamb", "Hot Cross Buns", "Go Tell Aunt Rhody" and more. DJ Brown, an 8th grader here at EJHS plays trombone and baritone and said that his favorite part is, "Playing instruments and it's like really fun." You always want to have fun in your electives so if you chose to have band you might have fun, but band is not for everyone. It might just strike your interest. When you take instrument classes it takes you a while and you don't have concerts. But at EJHS it goes fast and if you're stuck the pier tutors will help you.
This is the band teacher Mr.Koehler
There are three types of band: concert band, jazz band, and accelerated band. Concert band is what you start out on then at the end of 6th grade you can audition for jazz band. Jazz band is an option and in 7th grade you can do concert band or maybe accelerated band. Accelerated band is a mix between 7th and 8th graders. In 8th grade, in accelerated band is concert band. You don't have to do an accelerated band and just do jazz band. When I asked him why do you teach band. The band teacher Mr.Koeler responded with, "Because I had a really good time when I was a student and I enjoyed it so much I thought I wanted to keep doing it and that led to me being a teacher during the school day." In conclusion, band is a great opportunity to learn an instrument. It is a great class and it has a great teacher. So that is the inner workings ofĀ
