Bricen Collins, a student at EJHS says a big part of his life is soccer, and I can see why! He began soccer at the very young age of 3-4, and his travel organization's name is Cutter’s Soccer Club. He has always had a passion for soccer.
On the topic of his work ethic and drive to improve at soccer, he says what drives him is “Teamwork, effort, and the game itself, but mostly the thought of winning, especially against SCSA, our rivals.” When asked what he has learned and gained from the sport, he said “More athleticism, endurance, leadership-how to be a leader, since I’ve been captain of my team for two years.”
Family is also important to Bricen. He says that a big part of why he loves soccer is the example he sets for his brother, who also plays soccer and his younger sister. His quote on what this shows his younger siblings is “They can become as good as me or better with hard work.” Speaking of setting examples, being the captain of his soccer team shows his peers who to be more like, and he says, “They would say that I'm the best option we have as a defensive player/goalie and we're friends, I'm friends with my entire team.”
Bricen is currently playing in his 8th year, and as mentioned earlier, the second year of being the captain of his team. According to the interviewee, he still has just as much (or more) interest in the sport as he did when he first began as a 3 year old. He also plays for the EJHS Boys’ basketball team, and he brings the same items to the table, as far as being a leader and being a good teammate and friend.
In conclusion, Bricen Collins plays soccer for a lot of reasons, and according to my interview, soccer is very special to him and a crucial part of his life. The things it’s taught him and the people he’s met are all thanks to him playing soccer for Cutter’s Soccer Club.
