Do you have science for one of your classes? Well, Mr. Straw is that person who always makes you smile and most of us are excited to go science because he is always funny. He also teaches animal science. Students like him all around Edgewood Junior High. Did you know that before he taught science and animal science, he taught art for 15 years! He has been teaching for 16 years but this is his first year teaching science.
Mr. Straw has two kids named Anthony and Olivia. Mr. Straw also has a wife, you might know her as Mrs. Straw, one of the school counselors. He also has a dog name Barley who he is training to be a comfort dog for kids who are stressed out. He is also a swimming coach here at Edgewood. He also has a few pets in his classroom that some of you might have seen. He has different kinds of fish and gecko named George. Addilyn C said, “ He is very funny and he always forgives.”
Mr. Straw's hometown is Waunakee Wisconsin. He has been teaching for 16 years but this is his first year teaching science. Mr. Straw said “I enjoy science because there are many different subjects and hands-on experiments.” His past teachers inspired him to teach. He also coaches swimming! He loves to teach his son and coach the other kids. Mr. Straw stated,“I like swimming because it is a lifelong sport.” One thing he likes to eat for lunch is leftovers from home because he thinks that other food brands are expensive when you can just eat the food you have in your fridge. Miley Burks stated,“ Mr. Straw is nice, funny, and kind.”
Mr Straw's favorite snack is chips and salsa. He also likes raspberry lemonade. His favorite hobbies are camping, fishing, cooking, and smoking barbecue. He enjoys interactions with students and helping them learn. His favorite football team is the Green Bay Packers. One of his favorite social media platforms is Twitter. He likes that there is no drama and he could just read about stuff and not see people’s photos. He also likes animal calendars. Fall is his favorite time of the year.
Mr. Straw said, “If you want to be a teacher, just be ready for a changing year, everything is changing, you have to be flexible.” We hope you enjoyed learning more about Mr. Straw!
