Have you ever watched the original or new Top Gun movies? The new Top Gun Maverick was released on May 27, 2022. The original Top Gun was released 36 years ago on May 16, 1986. In both movies the main actor is Tom Cruise, who plays Maverick. In the original Top Gun, the pilot Maverick gets a chance to join the Fighter Weapons School where he and his best friend Goose compete to be top pilots. In Top Gun Maverick, after 30 years of navy service, Pete Maverick is chosen to train graduates, including Goose's son, at the fighter weapons school. He has to train them for a challenging assignment. Pete Maverick misses his best friend Goose after he died in the original Top Gun movie and blames himself.

Cameron S. stated “I love the Top Gun Maverick more than the old one because it is way more interesting than the original Top Gun.” Also Jalynn Matzke stated “I liked the Top Gun Maverick more than the original because there are more things that happen in Top Gun Maverick than the original Top Gun.” In Top Gun Maverick, Tom Cruise (Pete Maverick) is allowed to fly way faster than in the original Top Gun movie. When you watch the Top Gun Maverick you get to see the character’s growth from 30 years ago in the original Top Gun.

According to https://www.rogerebert.com the biggest difference between the two movies is how much depth there is to the characters. They also declare that the air scenes are brilliant. Top Gun Maverick has made more than 1.4 billion dollars at the global box office and 692 million dollars after 14 weeks in the cinemas. Top Gun Maverick got a 5 star rating. The original Top Gun got a three star rating. The original Top Gun movie rating is PG. The Top Gun Maverick rating is PG 13. Also some of the characters from the original are in the new Top Gun Maverick but of course older in the new one.

Both movies have their different strengths and weaknesses. You don’t have to watch the original to figure out what is happening in the Top Gun Maverick, but they are both equally likable.
