Why Should Schools Have Half Days Instead of E-learning Days?

November 7 and on November 8 were early release days at Edgewood schools because of Parent Teacher Conferences and Voting day. Here are some reasons that they should do this instead of e-learning days

The first reason they should do this is so students have more time to unwind and spend time with friends. A lot of students have a busy schedule and don’t have a lot of time to hang out or spend time with friends. With early release days it opens up to more opportunities to spend time with friends. It also gives them more time to relax. When you are in middle school it is hard to find time to relax because a lot of students have busy schedules and are busy almost every night. According to Team Duval Newsroom early release days are a good way for teachers to meet with other teachers teaching different grades.

Another reason that they should do this is that not all students can do e-learning at home. Some students don’t have computers that they can do it on and they also don’t have good wifi. Some students have a hard time concentrating and get distracted easily. So during e-learning they may not get all their work done because they get distracted by their pets, games, or toys. Poppy Bishop stated ”It is hands-on learning. And also not all kids have access to e-learning needs. It also gives them more opportunity to do work. ”

The last reason that school should have half days is because e-learning days can be confusing without teachers there to help you. During e-learning days you have to do things on your own even if you don’t understand it. With half days you can ask your teachers questions that you wouldn’t be able to ask in e-learning. Brailyn Bently says “It keeps us active and e-learning days can be confusing without teachers” Payton Baugh also says “It is easier to learn in person rather than online.”

For these reasons I think that schools should do early release days instead of e-learning days because not all students have access to e-learning needs, it gives students time to relax and hang out with friends, and it gives students time to ask questions about assignments.
