Have you ever played an instrument well? If not this may be a hard decision to make. Do you like the flute or saxophone better? I like the flute better. There are both parts of the instrumental woodwind family. But the flute is more portable, it has a better sound and it's a non-reeded instrument.
The flutes are a non-reeded instrument to play. If you don't know what a reed is, it’s a thin wooden slip that the saxophones have to stick and soak it in their mouth each time they want to play what happens if you mix your instrument up with someone else's. Most saxophones look alike so what if you put another person's reed in your mouth. That's just disgusting. Where the flute mouthpiece is just like a hollow, metal rod.

Flutes are so much more portable. Their cases are like a foot and a half long, and the height is about 2 inches. Well, the saxophone case averages to about 2 feet long and 8 inches tall. The flute is only 3 pieces and the saxophone is 5 whole pieces. Could I mention the flute is 1.5 pounds and an alto saxophone weighs about 5.5 pounds. For all these reasons the flute is much more portable than the alto saxophone. Which is the saxophone that most saxophonists play.
The flutes also sound so much better than the alto saxophone. The flutes are so graceful and flowy and the saxophones sound like a car horn it is so obnoxious and loud. It's easier to make higher notes on the flute. On the saxophone, though, you have to do all this stuff to be able to go high and low. You also look a lot better when you play the flute. You get to look up and sit up straight, you could with the saxophone but the saxophone has a neck strap that will eventually make your neck hurt. Also, the neck strap will sometimes make you slouch over.

These are the reasons why the flute is far superior to the saxophone. They are very portable and have only 3 pieces whereas a saxophone has 5 pieces, they are a non-reeded instrument so there is no spit licking, and they sound far better. “It's smaller, it's less squeaky, it's lighter because it's smaller, it's prettier, it's silver. I haven't really seen a silver saxophone.” Alice Musslewhite says. For these reasons, the flute is better than the saxophone.
