As some of you may know, at the end of this school year there will be a trip to Washington D.C. for all of the 7th and 8th graders. The trip will be over the summer and last 5 days. During the trip, students will get to hang out with friends, visit cool monuments, and learn interesting facts from our past.
Mrs. Jones is one of the main coordinators for the Washington D.C. trip. So what places are we visiting in Washington D.C? “So many to list here. We are all over that city over the course of a few days. A favorite last year was the Lincoln Memorial and National Mall,” states Mrs. Jones. Then Mrs. Jones continued, “I love seeing familiar places through fresh eyes. I have been to DC a few times but when you take people who have never seen these things, it is like seeing it for the first time again. Also, DC is a land of unexpected adventures. Sometimes you will witness the unplanned, like a presidential procession. I love those moments.”
The trips to Washington D.C. started just last year. But Mrs. Guest-Scott started planning the trip in 2019. When Covid 19 hit the trip had to be postponed, but now the trips are back in full swing! Why did Mrs. Guest-Scott start planning the trip to Washington D.C? "So that the kids would have the opportunity to connect to their seat of the government." states Mrs. Jones.

So far, 20 students have registered. There is plenty of room for more students. With going to Washington D.C, you have roommates. To pick roommates, you and your guardian will pick who you want to be with. Some parents may want to be chaperones, but are there any requirements? "Parents are welcome to join, however our chaperones have been chosen for their experience with students, and background checks." states Mrs. Jones.
Going to Washington D.C. as a teacher can be really different than going as a student, so what's it like as a student? "The trip was really fun, you get to hang out with your friends while learning some really cool stuff, though it was a lot of walking." states Briana Lamarca. Then Briana continued,"My favorite place was probably the archives or all of the museums because they were really cool and fun." Briana went last year, but is she going this year? "I don't know if I'm going this year just because it is quite a bit of money but it's possible that I might."
