The parking garage folded in at 4pm. As it collapsed, cars went tumbling down. Killing one, injuring five, and crushing cars along with the concrete floors falling down to the ground. Everyone was very scared and was full of screams everywhere. This situation was a complete mess.
NPR.com says,ā it looked like a frozen stream of cars and SUVs. The parking garage was due for inspection later this year. One person was trapped on the top layer of the parking garage, but got help to get down. The man who passed away was Willis Moore, a 59-year old from Atlanta. Everyone was scared because of the history of the place.
Here is some info about what happened during the collapse. Don Mulligan was on the 17th floor of a hotel that was nearby, when he heard rumbling. He knew something was happening but didnāt know what. When he saw the parking garage collapse he was terrified. The parking garage collapsed at the wrong time, inspection was due just a little bit after the garage collapsed. If the garage would have waited to collapse when the inspection happened then they could realize that it was about to collapse and could take it down safely. If they were to take it down safely, no one would be hurt and no one would have been so scared and full of fear.
This is a very sad time for New York and this is a reminder to stay safe and be cautious around buildings.
