An 18-year-old Indiana University student was hospitalized due to being stabbed on January 13th, 2023, According to WRTV. The student's name was not released. She was stabbed in the head 7 times, by 56-year-old Billie Davis. Both people were on a city bus on 4th Street near B-Line Trail. According to WRTV, ¨Police said the alleged attacker had fled before they arrived, but another passenger followed the suspect and helped officers track her down.¨ In the surveillance video, Davis can be seen stabbing the woman seven times.
According to New York Times, The student was taken to a hospital. Her condition was not available on Sunday. The university did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Everyone should send prayers to her and her family. The Bloomington Police Department and lawyers for Ms. Davis did not respond to requests for comment on Sunday. This is truly a sad thing for Indiana University.
CBS News says, ¨This week, Bloomington was sadly reminded that anti-Asian hate is real and can have painful impacts on individuals and our community.¨ Indiana University Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Multicultural Affairs James Wimbush said in a statement. "No one should face harassment or violence due to their background, ethnicity, or heritage. Instead, the Bloomington and IU communities are stronger because of the vast diversity of identities and perspectives that make up our campus and community culture." This is completely understandable and you have to give credit to him for stepping up and saying this. Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton also addressed the attack and alleged racist motive in another statement released by the city on Saturday. No one should be mentally or physically harmed because of their background. People have to realize that If someone is a different race, they can't help what their race did before them.
o ne should be hurt or harmed because of how they look or what their background is. This is a sad thing for Indiana University. New York Times also states that the attack in Bloomington comes amid a rise in hate crimes targeting Asians. The increase in attacks prompted federal lawmakers last year to pass the Covid-19 Hate Crimes Act, which gave government and law enforcement officials more tools and resources to work to stop, monitor, and react to such crimes. I personally have seen a lot of hate towards Asians and it is a sad thing to see in the world. Racism is a sad thing and results in a lot of suicides. Whenever I see racism I always feel bad and want it to stop. This stuff just needs to stop.
