Have you heard people talking about the EJHS Valentine's dance? That is correct! This year the school is hosting an EJHS VaLentine’s Barn Dance. The dance takes place on February 10, 2023, from 2:30-5:00 in the EJHS main gym. There will be snacks and drinks in the cafeteria. There will also be dancing, games, and food. Tickets are sold online for $6 if you prefer to buy the tickets at the dance then it will cost $7. If you would like snacks at the dance bring money, there will be pizza and more! Each item will be 1$ or 2$. The school website said “The EJHS Student Council invites you to join us on February 10 at the EJHS Barn Dance (2:30-5 PM at EJHS)! We will have a DJ, line dancing lessons, games, and more in the gym. There will also be pizza, candy, and drinks in the cafeteria. All proceeds go directly back to support EJHS students and teachers through your EJHS PTO; this event is open to EJHS students only. Pre-sale tickets are $6–if you purchase a ticket with cash at the door it will be $7”
The Student Council dance committee is the one that made this whole dance possible. They chose the timing of the dance to attract more people to attend it because some parents work late. Originally they were going to dance at 5:00 but they discussed it more and decided to do it at 2:30 so the timing works for more people. It would be easier to get there and for parents to pick them up. So hopefully everyone could come if they wanted to. Jorja Creedon from student council said, “At first it was gonna be around 5 but we had a discussion and chose after school since some parents don't get off work till 5 and it would be easier to get there and for parents to pick them up. “
The reason they picked that theme is that that was the best idea and they all agreed on it. They were going to have a Valentine's Day theme close to Valentine's Day but they could not have a time and day that worked then. They decided to not do the dance close to Valentine's Day. That made them think about a different theme and then they thought of the barn theme. The reason that they came up with the idea of a dance is that the last time they had a dance was Fall of 2019 and they felt like it was a time to do one again, a time to have fun and celebrate Valentine’s Day. They liked that idea so they decided to make a dance because it was new and interesting.
Since it is a barn dance, you DO NOT have to wear a dress or suit. You can simply wear barn clothes, such as jeans and a formal/cute top. You can also wear a cowboy/cowgirl hat or boots. There will be line dancing at the dance so I would suggest not wearing heels (for the ladies). The main idea of the dance is to have fun so bring your Indiana farm attire! There will be a lot of activities going on during the dance. There will be dancing in the EJHS main gym, games in the EJHS multipurpose room, and food in the cafeteria. There will also be line dancing lessons. People are getting excited about it. Emma Curtis said, “ It will be fun and I can’t wait for it.” Josephine Buckley said, “ I think the dance will be very fun and it will help raise money for the school which is always good.” But not all people say good things about it. Kinley Ginger said, “I think it will be chaotic because of how many people are coming, I think that all the food will also be gone.” And some people don’t know what to think. Poppy Bishop said, “I think it will be okay.”
