70 years. That’s how long Queen Elizabeth reigned in England. On September 8th England’s beloved queen died in Balmoral Castle in the United Kingdom. Now her son, King Charles the third, is ruling monarch of England.
Queen Elizabeth started her reign as queen in 1952. She was only 25 years old. She did many great things in her time sitting on the throne. While most of the things she did were subtle, they still meant a lot to her people. Always giving her point of view in quiet ways that stated her point of view. Queen Elizabeth was also known for her attempt to modernize the monarchy. She actually was the first royal monarch to post a tweet on Twitter. Queen Elizabeth is also one of the most well-traveled monarchs in the history of England’s long line of royals.
At age 96 the queen is the longest to keep the throne leaving her a long lasting place in England’s hearts. Prince Harry said his memories with his "Granny" ranged from his own childhood to when the Queen met his own children, 3-year-old Archie Harrison and 1-year-old Lilibet Diana, who was named after the monarch's nickname.
"Granny, while this final parting brings us great sadness, I am forever grateful for all of our first meetings — from my earliest childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as my Commander-in-Chief, to the first moment you met my darling wife and hugged your beloved great-grandchildren," he continued. "I cherish these times shared with you, and the many other special moments in between. You are already sorely missed, not just by us, but by the world over. And as it comes to first meetings, we now honor my father in his new role as King Charles lll." says Prince Harry, Elizabeth's grandson.
Even the people who are not in England feel grief about her death, people like Mrs. Ayer. “I feel like a lot of history was tied to her even for people who aren’t connected to the royal family. She still lived through a lot of history and it is sad to lose someone who has lived through that much.”
Queen Elizabeth’s son King Charles III said the death of his beloved mother was a
"moment of great sadness" for him and his family and that her loss would be "deeply felt"
around the world. And I am sure that the whole country of England feels the same. “I feel numb.
She was amazing, so selfless, and such a servant to her people,” says Wendy Green, 45, who
came to pay her respects at the Queen’s official residence in the Scottish capital, over which the
national flag flew at half-mast. “We will never have another quite like her.” says an article from
TIME
Even some kids from EJHS feel sad that she has passed, like Jenna Abram, an 8th grader at EJHS. She said, “ I feel like it's very sad because she was a really good person and she made some really big differences for England”.
The Queen’s death is a sorrowful time for all of us. We will never have another monarch like her. But we can remember her as a truly great queen and a wonderful ruler. She was always determined and that’s what drove her to do many great things. Queen Elizabeth will be remembered throughout many different parts of the world and all throughout history. She will be missed.
