So many trees! At the Festival of Trees in Indianapolis, Indiana, there is an impressive total of 78 christmas trees on display for you to see. In this article, you will learn all about it.
The first Festival of Trees debuted on December 4, in 1985 at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse, NY. After just a week, over a total of 8,000 visitors came to the event and raised 27,000 dollars from the event. It was so successful the first time that they decided to make it an annual event! “This is the perfect way to brighten your family's holiday season.” says indianahistory.org. In the year 1987, OnBank contributed the first multi tiered poinsettia tree. It is over two stories tall and had hundreds of red poinsettias that were arranged and shaped to look like a big Christmas tree. The Festival of Trees is presented by the Salvation Army.
There are a total of 78 christmas trees this year with a number of different themes sponsored by different companies. Including a 30 foot tree that was presented by the Salvation Army that you can walk through to welcome you into the festival. This experience has also brought back popular Twilight Tuesdays. A Twilight Tuesday is the option to see the trees by night. And the giant tree that you can walk through, glows in the dark! For the kids that are maybe too little to enjoy the trees they can have the option of a scavenger hunt. Anyone can participate in this activity to look for the Elf on the Shelf hidden on one of the trees or the Weihnachtzgurke, which is ten pickle ornaments hidden in all the trees throughout the building. It’s a very fun activity that you are able to do. “It was a 10/10 experience! There were lots of trees and I loved the different themes to them!” Isabel Branam says.
At the Festival of Trees, you are able to vote for your favorite tree. The top three previous winners of 2022 were: In 1st place was a tree called “Home for the Holidays” sponsored by the Indiana Canine Assistance Network. In 2nd place came a tree called “Cream and Crimson Christmas” sponsored by the Physician MBA Program at IU’s Kelley School of Business. And last but certainly not least, a tree called “The Art of the game” sponsored by Pacers Sports and Entertainment joined by Finish Line Foundation. There is also an interactive display of the classic “A Christmas Story” sponsored by O'malia’s Living. A review on yelp says “ It was one of those things I didn’t know I needed til I experienced it a few years ago. This is a holiday-must!”
The Festival of Trees is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. It is open from November 10 to January 6, every year. It is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. Twilight Tuesdays are available on Nov. 28, Dec. 5, Dec. 12, and Dec. 19. The tickets which can be purchased at the window but are encouraged to be bought beforehand on their website. Tickets for adults, which you are counted as if you are 13 and older, are $10. Youth ticket cost which is counted if you are 1-12 is $5. Children under the age of 1 are free.
