Secondly, Christmas is expected to see heavy travel but what days should people travel on? About 3-4 days before and after Christmas are expected to see heavy travel and also the 2 days after Christmas are expected to see heavy travel. “Most people are predicted to fly out for their holiday trips on Thursday, Dec. 21, and Friday, Dec. 22. And expected to return home on Thursday, Dec. 28, and Friday, Dec. 29. Travelers can anticipate up to 3.7 million travelers at airports on these days.” says USA Today. “The two days after Christmas see heavy travel. Says The Daily Progress. And since Christmas falls on a Monday this year, that might mean an abnormally busy Tuesday and Wednesday of that week.
Lastly for Christmas when people travel for Christmas most people either travel by car or by plane. So which one will most likely be busier? The Bureau of Transportation Statistics (.gov) says that “Most long-distance holiday travel, about 91 percent, is by personal vehicle, such as by car and only 5 to 6 percent of holiday trips are by air.” Also AAA Newsroom says that, “Airports are expected to be the busiest they’ve ever been over the Christmas and New Year’s travel period. AAA projects 7.5 million air travelers this holiday season, surpassing 2019’s record of 7.3 million passengers. AAA also expects 115.2 million travelers will head 50 miles or more from home over the 10-day year-end holiday travel period.”
