Artificial Trees are Better than Real ones.
By: Callen C Robertson
You are back at the tree farm for the 9th straight year. You see a great tree, but it costs $150. Your family is begging you to let you get it, but you don’t want to pay that price. You finally give in, but you hate yourself afterwards. You have spent over $1000 total on real christmas trees in the last almost decade. If you find yourself in the same shoes as that guy I have a solution. An artificial tree. Artificial trees are better because they are better for the environment, easier to care for and set up, and they are less costly.
My 1st reason was because getting an artificial tree is better for the environment. If you think about it, with 30 million trees getting bought at Christmas time each year, that is some serious deforestation going on. There is already enough deforestation going on without people buying real Christmas trees. If you don’t know what deforestation is, I will explain it to you. Deforestation is basically just getting rid of a big area of trees. This increases deforestation by a lot. This is bad. Without enough trees then there is not enough oxygen in the atmosphere. Do you really want to run out of oxygen just to have a tree that isn’t even that good? Another thing that makes Artificial trees better for the environment is that they are recyclable. The world could use a little more recycling. Artificial Trees also don’t require water but real trees do, this a waste of water. We need water.
My next reason is that artificial trees are easier to set up and take care of. Mason Mccarty, an EJHS 6th grader agrees with me, he says, “Artificial trees are easier to take care of and set up.” Some artificial trees just fold right down and are ready to be decorated. It is also hard to get a good measurement of a tree while it’s in the wild. If you go to buy a tree at a store it says the exact height of the tree. Another downside to Real life trees is that they get the pine needles everywhere. Kanen Reed, Another EJHS 6th grader, says, “I like them because they are less messy.”
My 3rd and final reason is that artificial trees are less costly. While an artificial Tree is more expensive up front, they will last around 10 years. An artificial tree is less expensive up front , but more expensive on the back end because they are replaced annually. Over the course of a decade you could have 1 Christmas Tree or 10 trees. Ultimately you will pay more money if you choose a real tree. It can end up being more expensive if you are one of those families who have 2-5 Christmas trees. With over $5 billion being spent on real Christmas trees, artificial trees are a cheaper alternative.
In conclusion, Artificial trees are better because they are better for the environment, easier, and less expensive. So steel clear of those tree farms folks!
