Ho ho ho! It’s the holiday season and everyone’s out and about getting gifts and spreading holiday cheer. The holiday season is a great time to go and see people, to have family reunions, and of course, to go and meet someone at their house! (Or have them over to your house, I’m not picky!)
Christmas is most definitely best spent with friends and family. ”Seeing my other family is more fun”, says Micah Lorence, a student at EJHS. There are also scientific benefits to seeing people in person, instead of over phones and screens in general. Betterup.com says that, “Face-to-face communication is often more effective than written or audio-only conversations.” And I personally think doing stuff with people in person is also more fun than just talking to them over the phone.Â
One nice thing about Christmas with your family is that you can kind of cheat off of your friend or family’s present. For example, if they got a new video game you can play it for one of the first times it’s played. Or if they have some nice trading cards you can get first dibs on trading them. (really good for your collection to do that) And, yet again I say, it is SO much more fun to spend Christmas with family and friends.
One thing that I am kind of guilty about saying is that if you do go to someone else’s house, you can go and find something to do or basically just hide from someone if you want to get out of talking to them, instead of having to go and talk to them if they call you. You could go and play with your friends or relatives that are there before getting caught in hour-long conversations. (it’s really just annoying when you have to talk with someone for so long). Instead of the conversations, you can occupy yourself with a bunch of fun stuff instead!
Another fun thing about Christmas away from home is, sometimes, you get to have multiple Christmas celebrations. For example, say you were going to celebrate Christmas a little early because you’re traveling. That’s one Christmas. Then you travel to your grandparent’s house and spend Christmas day at their house. That’s two Christmas celebrations. Then after that, you travel all the way to your other grandparent’s house and have a celebration there. That’s three whole Christmas celebrations all in about a month. “The more the merrier”, said Nevaya Scott, a student at EJHS.
Have a holly jolly Christmas…It really is the best time of the year!
