When you go to stores looking for Halloween decorations you normally find black cat statues or whatever so they are generaly categorized as spooky or scary when actually in other cultures such as Europe, Japan, and Ireland in the 19th century (January 1st,1801- December 31,1900) black cats were/still are symbolized as good luck. The cats don’t deserve to have a bad reputation if they are innocent. I am probably still going to joke around that black cats are bad luck, but I don’t actually believe that black cats are bad luck. Like how I joke about butterflies being good luck; they probably aren’t, but I still joke around about it. But back to the cats. The black cats actually have some history. The goal was for black cats to represent mini black panthers. Which I thought was very interesting.
Another interesting fact I think is that in England black cats are a good wedding gift because they are thought to bring good luck to the bride. A black cat in Asia is lucky. Also in Scotland black cats on your doorstep or porch is considered a sign of prosperity.
Why are they though,I mean they have not done anything to us humans, and are adorable. Just look at that innocent cat with a bad rep, did it do anything except be cute? No! Also, look at those precious eyes! It's too cute! How could anyone think he/she is bad luck?Be sure to search them up and appreciate their cuteness.
So why are they? ”In fact, in a lot of places and cultures, they're actually a symbol of good luck and prosperity," says Google and a ton of other websites. Some of course say that black cats are associated with "witchcraft”and “bad deeds’’ and a whole bunch of other crap about black cats, but for what reason though? Some people also say that they are of course associated with the Devil AKA Satan. However, in Europe, they were good luck to sailors, promising “to ensure a safe journey and return”, also says Google. According to one of our editors here at Colt Chronicles, Violet O'Neal, who has a black cat, said ”I actually think he brings me good luck.” How so, you ask? "Well he kinda protects me,”says O’Neal.
I’m going to bring in a topic hopefully no one enjoys discussing, racism. I know it's probably not the reason, but something in my gut is telling me that it's one of them.Think about it though, I mean why only black cats? Why not white, orange, gray, yellow, cats? What about cats with patterned fur coats, like stripes etc. I honestly think that’s just plain wrong! Hope y’all loved the article, and have a decent day :)
