Year 6 Newsletter - Autumn Term 2026
Friday 4th September 2026
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to Year 6! We are so excited to have your children in our class and are looking forward to a year of fantastic learning and growth. Our main goal is for every child to achieve their absolute best, both academically and socially, as they prepare for the next chapter in their lives.
Parents and carers are invited to meet the Year 6 team on Wednesday 9th September from 3:20pm – 3:45pm. We will talk about the year ahead and answer any queries you may have. Ms. Marmora will also be available after the meeting between 3:45pm and 4:00pm to answer any questions about the Isle of Wight residential trip.
This term in English, pupils will explore a variety of texts and learn to write for different purposes—whether persuading, informing, or storytelling. In maths, we will cover key topics tailored specifically to each child's individual learning goals. Our History topic this term is Crime and Punishment through the Ages, with exciting cross-curricular links to art and computing. We are also planning a trip to the Tower of London—further details will follow soon.
Homework will be set at least once a week and published on the Year 6 website/Google Classroom from Friday 2 October. It will consist of English, maths, and topic-based activities. While the administration of homework may differ from class to class, it is the children's responsibility to complete these tasks. Please note that children will be expected to take a book home from the class library on a regular basis starting next week. Please ensure books are returned once they have been read. Year 6 will continue to use the Accelerated Reader and MyOn platforms.
Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school at the start of the week. If a child is unable to take part in a PE lesson for any reason, they must have an explanatory note from a parent or carer. PE lessons will take place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Application for Secondary School

We look forward to working with you to make this a fantastic year for our Year 6 children.
