Year 6 Newsletter - Autumn Term 2025
Friday 5th September 2025
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to Year 6! We are so excited to have your children in our class and are looking forward to a year of fantastic learning and growth. Our main goal is for every child to achieve their absolute best, both academically and socially, as they prepare for the next chapter in their lives.
Parents and carers are invited to meet the Year 6 team on Tuesday 9th September from 3:20pm – 3:45pm. We will talk about the year ahead and answer any queries you may have. Ms. Marmora will also be available after the meeting between 3:45 PM and 4:00 PM to answer any questions about the Isle of Wight residential trip.
This term, we will be focusing on improving English writing skills for a range of purposes and engaging with a variety of texts to broaden children's knowledge. In maths, we will cover a range of subjects in line with the national curriculum, focusing specifically on the needs of the individual child. Our history topic will be Crime and Punishment through the Ages. This will have cross-curricular links, including art, and we will be visiting the Tower of London. Details of the trip will be shared separately.
Homework will be set at least once a week and published on the Year 6 website/Google Classroom from Friday 26th September. It will consist of English, maths, and topic-based activities. While the administration of homework may differ from class to class, it is the children's responsibility to complete these tasks. Please note that children will be expected to take a book home from the class library on a regular basis starting next week. Please ensure books are returned once they have been read. Year 6 will continue to use the Accelerated Reader and MyOn platforms.
Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school at the start of the week. If a child is unable to take part in a PE lesson for any reason, they must have an explanatory note from a parent or carer. If you would like your child to walk home alone, please write, sign, and date a letter confirming this and hand it to the office. If your child needs to bring a mobile phone to school, they must leave it at the office at the start of the school day and collect it at the end of the day.
You can keep up to date with everything happening in school via our year group website. You will find the link in the Children section of the school website, where you can find information on dates, timings, homework, and letters. There is also a QR code below which will take you straight to our page. The Local Authority and the Department for Education have set a minimum expected attendance target of 95% over the school year. Attendance is crucial for your child's learning. Please remember to report all school absences to the school office and ensure that we have your correct contact details.
Let’s work together to make this a fantastic year!
