MVP Group Piano

The MVP Curriculum

MVP is our group piano curriculum for ages 5-7. It stands for Music•Voice•Piano. MVP was designed for young beginners AND beginners who thrive in a social environment.

This is the perfect place for our Music Preschool graduates to continue their piano education!

Students attend one hour weekly in groups of about five students. Friends are made while the students play the piano and other instruments, sing, play games, and learn through hands-on activities. The goal is for children to learn to sing and play the piano while having fun learning together. Each week, the focus is on one song and one music concept. The goal is for students to memorize and master that one new song each week, while maintaining previous weeks' songs. Students are expected to practice 5-10 minutes a day.

We teach young beginners using keyboards that fit their hands, a color method for recognizing notes, and singing for correct rhythm and timing. We also incorporate bells (a type of xylophone), a gathering drum and various other instruments to provide more fun and educational music experiences.

Young Beginners

Most parents want their child to learn to play the piano, but getting busy elementary school children to practice can be hard. We believe those students started too late! We have designed a fun and effective method that teaches young children how to play the piano while they are young enough to LOVE learning and music, resulting in students playing the piano correctly with both hands before they enter first grade! Learning piano at a young age improves children's dexterity and reading skills. And, like riding a bike, these skills will last a lifetime.

We save you time and money by making it possible for you to invest in your child's music education now, while they are young and while the challenge of learning to play the piano is fun and exciting!

The Levels

There are three levels of MVP: Melody, Harmony, and Improvisation. In Melody, young students (ages 4-5) learn to play the right hand correctly using our color method. In Harmony, students (ages 5-6), learn to play hands separately using our color method. Improvisation students (ages 6-7) are ready to put hands together and read notes without colors. Students at all levels are encouraged to improvise and compose so they can both read and create music.

Semesters and Books

Since the semesters are non-sequential, students can begin the program or move to a different level at the beginning of any semester. Each semester is designed to have 14-16 lessons and a recital.

Each book includes at least 15 songs. Some of the songs are traditional songs, some have original lyrics, and some are original songs. All of the songs are designed to fit the semester theme. There are six sets of MVP books. (Blue Year: Turquoise and Indigo, Yellow Year: Amber and Golden, Red Year: Fuchsia and Scarlet.)

The Melody and Harmony books are in color, and the print is large and easy to read. The colors and images that match the semester's theme are fun and engaging.
