How did the Invention of the Sewing Machine cause the Fashion Industry More Pollution?
The sewing machine changed the fashion industry by being able to sew clothes for your family, easier and quicker. Companies could mass produce which helped make more clothes, but also meant that the sewing machine made extra clothes that people did not buy. With all the extra clothes that people had or stores couldn't sell it to someone else would be thrown away. Once it is thrown away it goes to landfills. Not only did that person lose money, materials, it could have gone to some one that could not afford it, but it takes 200 years or more to decompose in a landfill (The Environmental Crisis Caused by Textile Waste, n.d.) .
In stores people used to trade things like I will give you salt for 3 cows. But now when you go to stores there are touchscreens. You can swipe a credit card or pay in cash. There are reports that in a few years you are gonna pay in a blink of an eye. Now you can even pay with a touch of your finger tips. It has become easier to pay, so it increases production, results in more transactions and more waste. Which contributes to climate change.
