The fashion industry can also make humans ingest microfibers and plastics by putting clothes in the wash and then microfibers are ejected into the ocean, where they are eaten by krill, who are then passed up the food chain, all the way to us humans. Microplastics can also enter the body by wearing polyester, because when polyester is washed, loose microplastics are left on the garment. When polyester microfabrics enter the body, they can cause disease and even death. This also harms animals because they are the ones ingesting the microfibers.
