A computer program is a sequence or set of instructions in a programming language for a computer to execute. (Wikipedia).  

In other words, a computer program allows us to make a computer do something useful and meaningful. 

For NCEA Level 1, the programming language that will be taught is Python.  Scratch may also be used depending on students interest and past programming experience.
