A brief/proposal is a document which outlines what and how we will solve a problem.
Where possible, the use of the TEXAS paragraph writing guidelines should be used.
Define the problem/issue, and why it is needs to be solved.
E.g. The problem I am addressing is litter with the school. I have noticed during break times, that there is a lot of litter on the ground.
Asking key questions.
E.g. This is encouraging pests, using resources, creating more work for the cleaners, and is not encouraging students to take ownership of their environment.
Investigating different ways that can offer a solution.
E.g. To give information to students about the litter issue, I could make a poster using a desk-top-publishing program such as Publisher, I could create a podcast...
Be specific about what your solution is.
E.g. I will create a website
The environment of which the outcome will be used
As I am creating a website, it needs to be able to be used in the school environment
Is a way to set boundaries on your project and define exactly the goals, deadlines, and project deliverables you'll be working towards.
The website will only focus on addressing the issue of rubbish within the school and will be of a positive nature. It will need to be completed within...
People who are invested in the success of the project.
E.g. The principal, as he regularly brings outside people on tours around the school, therefore he wants to show the school in a good light and show people how the students show pride in their school
Who the solution is being made for.
An end-user for this would be a new year 9 student to the school, who is interested in the school culture of recycling
What the solution will need to have.
E.g. A page about composting and the benefits of composting, including a diagram that. The website will need to load quickly and accurately on most browsers.
How the solution will look.
E.g. As the theme is about composting, I will use the colour green as this reminds students about nature. I will use the school colours of blue and grey on the website so students associate the website with the school
For example, Software, internet/digital sources, tools, teacher, techniques, equipment, tutorials, experts, stakeholders, image, video, media, planning tool
E.g. I will need access to Notepad++ at home and at school to code my website as it lets me code in HTML and CSS. I am familiar with the software and it is free so I don’t have to buy a copy to use at home.
Constraints are the limits within which a project must operate. The main constraints being time, cost, scope, quality, resources and risks.
E.g. The production of the posters will have a cost to them and will need to be printed under $50. I will only have 4 weeks to complete the website.
Feedback (Merit/Excellence)
after talking to the deputy principal....it would be better to promote the website to the year 9 students through......to
be more effective.....as a result I have decided to......
You will need to provide evidence of this feedback. This evidence should be included in your proposal, but is not
counted in the 2-page proposal limit.
Research (Merit/Excellence)
Through the research looking at other environmentally friendly websites, I realised that a map of the locations of
the compost bins and recycling locations would be needed...
You will need to provide evidence of this research. This evidence should be included in your proposal, but is not
counted in the 2-page proposal limit.
Merit
students need to improve the proposal in such a way that there are clear links between the requirements, end users
and resources needed. The improvement must be supported with feedback and research.
Excellence
students need to justify, with evidence, that the proposal meets the overall project requirements. There is no step-
up in the nature or scope of the requirements; the step-up is in the justification of how the project meets the
requirements. The justification required for Excellence needs to triangulate requirements (including specifications),
end-user needs, and resources.
