Digital media and technology offer extraordinary opportunities while at the same time pose real risks for young people. Students use the immense power of the Internet and mobile technology to explore, connect, create, and learn in ways never before imagined, both in and out of the classroom. But issues that emerge from this 24/7 "connected culture," such as cyberbullying, privacy lapses, and uncertainty about which information to trust online, are surfacing both in schools and at home.

The K-12 Ramsey School District follows the Common Sense Digital Citizenship Curriculum. Throughout the school year at Eric S. Smith Middle, students are led by the Library Media Specialist, principal, guidance counselors, classroom teachers and outside organizations in digital citizenship lessons.
