The Child Development Program at Ramsey High School is a formal course of study for Ramsey High School students. In the Child Development class, high school students study child development from birth through school-age. They then have the chance to apply this knowledge while working with preschool aged children. High school students plan, supervise, and evaluate activities planned for the preschool children who attend class three times per week. Preschool runs from mid-October until the beginning of June on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (8:15-10:45am). The ratio of high school students to preschool children is 1:1.
The Child Development Program operates under Board of Education policies, is administered through the Fine Arts Department, and is taught by a certified teacher. Ramsey High School and the Ramsey Board of Education make no claims that the Child Development Program is a certified pre-school or day-care program. Although the pre-school students benefit greatly from participating in this program, the ultimate purpose of the class is to teach the high school students about child development and give them the practical experience of working with young children.
