Commencement Project Sophomore Year

As a sophomore, the student will research and propose a written plan as to his/her intentions to complete the senior project.  By the end of third trimester, the 10th grade student will submit a Parental Consent form.  The Written Plan will give the student a structure in which to use his/her personal interests to create a positive change in the community.

Research Paper

Consider the following questions when researching the problem in the community:

• What is the problem in the community and how long has the need existed?

• What are some statistics that would quantify this problem?

• Are there misconceptions about the problem?  Why?

• What specific segment of the population does it impact?

• What effect does it have on the community?

• What obstacles does this problem present in the community:

• What is being done in this field of study?

• What common approaches are taken by local organizations or agencies to meet the needs of this population?

• What has been the most effective approach to serve the needs of the people affected?

• Are there underlying issues that still need to be addressed by a government agency?

• What is the best way or the preferred time of year to serve the people in need?
